i enjoyed the game in that it was fun, but it went into too many tangents.. they tried to develop a story which wasn't really present in the first, so they had to do a lot with the second and you had to put it together with the recorded story parts.. what i really did like though, was the feeling that the country (and the world) was f*cked.  There were a few moments were you were going through towns and it had an eerie "frightening" feeling to it, and some parts in Chicago were the same.  I wish they had more of these tight, dark "horror" type moments in the game.. they went for scale, and sometimes the game just didn't scale up

I would give it a solid 8 if i was ranking it, and it had a huge MP, and an amazingly fun co-op which people spent many hours on, and the game sold pretty well.. so i don't know if i would call it a "failure"; maybe it just didn't live up to expectations.

its wasn't total failure, but if it wasnt for the resistance 2 logo on it i wouldnt have bought it.  They took my favorite FPS and turned it into this generic crap. it think once you choose an art style and stuff for a game you should stick to it because it made r2 feel like another franchise and i spent $60 for RESISTANCE 2.
 
obviously resistance sold a crap ton and a lot of people like it, so why would they make so many changes.
 
the first on was cool because it was a WWII alien shooter, and r2 did not have that feeling at all.  It honestly seemed more like it took place in modern times. 
 
if the next game has the following i would spend $100 to get it
 
-darker story
-weapon wheel
- non-talking main charecter
- more weapons (there was only a few new ones in r2 and they werent that cool)
- bring back all weapons from the first game plus tons of new ones and make them upgradable like in ratchet and clank
-expanded co-op plus co-op campaign
- rethought competitive
- no weapon loadouts
-longer campaign (r1 was long for a FPS and r2 was like 6 or 7 hours)
