Is there ANY sort of rules or guidelines on submission times for reviews before they're considered old?
Cuz it's starting to get a bit confusing and frustrating when a review is labeled old, but it's never been submitted to N4G.

This question arises from this:
http://www.n4g.com/NewsPending-165654.aspx

It may have been written last week, but its' never been submitted and the game is still very relevant.
If N4G has its own meta rating system then a review should be acceptable as long as its never been submitted.
Yes or No?
Please clarify for future reference.

Well I've decided on one month from the games release. I check the release dates for the different territories & if it's over 1 month since the game was launched, I report the review as old.

For example, any MGS 4 reviews that come in after 12th July, I will report as 'old'.

I recon 1 month is enough time to get reviews up & it helps to keep N4G moving forward.

I can agree with that, but what of those established sites that may send out their review more than a month late because of a backlog of other titles that hold a higher priority?

IMO as long as the reviews are not duplicates then I have no problem approving them.

Well then they are too late. Most of the high profile sites will have their reviews up before the game is released anyway.

For reviews of a lower priority, sites generally do a much shorter review anyway, ensuring that reviews can come out on a timely manner. Obviously they would plan ahead, looking at the release schedule to allocate resources appropriately.

I think the one month business is being generous & is there to help sites who don't have the resources available that the bigger sites process.

But like I said, after a month it's time to move onto the next game.

That's exactly the way I see it.
Since N4G has their own meta-score system in place, then no matter the age of the review as long as it isn't a dupe it should be acceptable(for current generation games that is).
