This is all too troubling.  All I can say is that I saw this coming. I knew Russia was getting ready for something, I just didn't know what exactly at the time. I didn't know all the specifics about the political tensions between Georgia and Russia.  It's very sad that all we can do is watch and hope that Russia eases off.

There is some territory that is under a dispute.  Russia doesn't like how Georgia handled it, or is handling it; the problem, is that Russia is being accused of taking the matter to areas away from the dispute.  Maybe this will lead to something else down the line.

Yup, it's troubling alright.  The United States at this moment cannot get itself into another front (we are tied down in Iraq and Afghanistan while keeping a constant, Cold War-era vigilance on North Korea).  I could only wish Europe would be more pro-active and not just dump most of this "backyard" problem on us Americans.

Still, even when **** hits the fan, I still have utmost confidence in our government.

but there is still a conflict going on; Georgia's leaders have gone on to say it's war and have imposed martial law and dedicating all their resources to this.  It doesn't matter what news source it is; there is still something taking place

Americans - For information on international conflicts I suggest listening to outside sources. I recommend the CBC and BBC.

Funny you say that because CNN is considered in this country as the most liberal big-corporate media opposite of Fox News.  That is if you're implying that CNN is a 'fake' news network.

why is an outside news source more credible than somethiing here? the times, the post, cnn, bbc, cbc, associated press?  Considering most news comes from the associated press any way.  Does any one think that any news source is completely unbiased?  But i forgot, america is blah blah blah....

Near Florida and South Carolina.

America is not "Tied Down" by the Iraqi War by any means most of our armed forces are inactive as of right now.  Most the armed forces in Iraq are babysitting the country until Iraq can protect itself.

i hope this can get fixed by civil means.  Georgia is allied with the U.S., and tensions have been growing between the two.  I hope this is stopped now because Putin's former KGB self and old Russia roots have been showing the past couple of years.  Russia's infrastructure has made strides the past couple of years and needs further development for their economy to boom.  If that were to happen, none of this nonsense would happen.  EU needs to come down on this; but this is where the EU is weak and vulnerable, and it may hurt them in the end if they don't fix this.

No I did not.

Most of our Armed Forces including the Air Force, Navy, Army and Marines are sitting inactive.  However most of our Armed Forces in Iraq are just babysitting.

We could move on Georgia as fast as we could even if we were not currently in a conflict.

I would have used Fox but I didn't want to be scolded by the ever so liberal people of the internet.  I don't even like to mentition to some of my friends that I watch and like Fox News because if they found out I was conservative they would abandon me.

I also tend to listen to the BBC World News on my XM radio when driving to work but I usually end up turning it off after a while.

But enough about that.

But yes, all America can do is watch Russia blow Georgia to bits. Maybe Russia will soon show mercy, maybe not.

CNN is very liberal and biased Fox is no better but a little more tolerable.

If that was the case, FordGTGuy, WW3 would already be upon us and I would be getting ready for boot camp.

Dude, as long as they're in Iraq regardless (key word: regardless) of the whatever reason they're there, we are tied down.  You even said it...we're stuck there UNTIL (key word: until) Iraqi forces can protect themselves.  Using your original post, if our forces left Iraq to go fight somewhere else, Iraq would not be able to fight off sectarian violence and/or a resurgent al Qaida since they are not ready!

The only way we can solve this problem (if **** really goes haywire) is that the United States institute a nationwide draft.  Then again, me as an 8th-year US Army veteran, I dread the notion of putting trust to a soldier who did nothing but smoke pot in civilian life.

everyone does realize that the BBC is very liberal and is widely criticized for being so?  I don't care what side of the aisle your on, it's just funny to see someone criticize one thing, when they do the same

The overall media is liberal! <PERIOD> END OF DISCUSSION.

Now, the point of the matter is that I think things are going to get worse instead of better in this conflict/war.  Something tells me that there is going to be some sort of domino effect that will take place if this war lasts for more than a week.  I've been trying to deny it but I think I'm going to see WW3 in my life time.

We fought WWII on two different fronts and won I really doubt we would have much trouble putting up a fight now even with some of our forces in Iraq.  My point was that we wouldn't need to leave Iraq entirely to put up a fight.
