Basically, we signed up to Sky broadband last week, and they have limited our broadband speed to 288kbps. That's 36kBps. Our last provider consistently provided speeds between 2 and 4Megabit, so for Sky to force us in to a 0.28 Megabit connection is ludicrous. Their reason for it is "That is the most your line can provide", which is obviously complete rubbish.

This makes online gaming completely impossible, the amount of lag is unbearable, it's like dial up all over again since we have to split that 36kB across 3 PCs and the PS3.

So here's a warning to everyone, do your research on ISPs, some of them won't provide you with as much as they say they will. If the price is low, there is going to be a reason for it. "You get what you pay for".

To those in the UK, be wary of Sky, for me at least, they suck.

I'm done ranting for now.

Explain to them that you know they are liars, technically speaking you should be able to find some ground to sue them. Use that to scare them.

We've ditched their contract, they have to give you that one week trial period or something, this is more of a warning to others, because if you don't quit quickly they've got you locked in for a year and a half!

I just have Rogers. I only have a 1MB/sec connection. Dunno how that fairs to most people's connection.

Weird,
ive had sky broadband for about 1month now. I get around 13,000Kbps according to a speedtest website and i have only been disconnected once and that was while using my PC so i have never been disconnected from PSN since ive had sky.
i doubt its their fault, i mean why would they give you a slow connection for no reason

virgin media isnt that good in my area, two of my friends have it and thy always get disconnected, but my cousin who lives about 20miles away gets good service with virgin

I'm on Virgin Media 20mb and its not that bad tbh, I do get a quick speed for the most part and online gaming is alright. OP, I've heard alot of great things about BE* so try and see if they are in your area.

I had loads of problems with sky that after badgering them they finally cancelled my account without charging me for the rest of my contract.

Sky have been good. I get around 12Mbps for a tenner. Not bad.

*nodnod* That's what I'm on as well. I normally get very good speed with the connection, with most stuff getting downloaded (ignoring P2P and torrents) at around 500Kb/s to 1Mb/s... You should definitely switch to VM, SilPho. They have decent customer service, and their service is very good.
