THE HELL?!?

Damn...I like those textures on the second shot...especially on the the guy's Camel Back!!  The rusted colors make me want to get a tetanus shot right now!

It would have been nice if we could have similar shots with which to compare. The graphics in the game were inconsistent anyway (as in, they looked nice in places and terrible in others), so comparing them like this isn't going to give anyone a clear idea of what the real difference is. Try posting shots taken in the same areas before and after the update.

Could you provide shots of identical views? Just for a better comparison. As it stands, the improvement is impressive.

I don't think it looks that much better.

It looks dirtier, at least.

Yes it would have been nice for shots of the same map, but we don't, what we have are shots of the characters which we CAN compare and extrapolate.

even so, the character model seems much improved- with much higher quality textures and detail

going by recent beta footage, the environments looked mediocre, but serviceable for a game like Socom

Nice shots Vio.  If they would just work on the servers (and all that, that entails) then this game will be another fine shooter installment.  For now though, they need to work on connectivity and continue to polish the graphics.  Not that long 'til launch.  I have high hopes for this game (and it really is fun as hell) but I spoke out that the spawn camping wasn't that bad before......... and.....well I would be remised if I didn't apologize to those that had the same concerns.  It has gotten WAY out of control and the devs have got to do something about the a-holes that sit there doing nothing but taking cheap shots.  I mean a couple of times for laughs is one thing, but playing the entire game that way......f'n ridiculous.

Gritty isn't always best... At least it works here, though, eh?

I actually like the smooth look in the first screenshots. Im in the beta and the weird textures on the desert town level hurt my eyes. Like the lighting is horrible you cant see 30 feet in front of you unless you press up 2 times on the dpad. Makes it really hard to spot the campers.

I do agree though overall Socom is visually a mixed bag some good spots some not so good.
Crossroads has its moments.

Its more the smoke and dust that does that, it adds to the atmosphere I think, but at least if you have that scope on it helps.

I hope its just not me but its hard to see in socom right. like if you focus too far it hurts my head and I begin to get a headache. everything seems to be moving. I hope they fix that and make the lighting better , make everything brighter and easier to see.
