Ok so later this year i'm heavily considering a 360 (around November time) basically all i'm all asking is what is XBL like on a day to day basis how is the online experince in the games you play and any other advice (or warnings) you may feel like putting in.

Its ridiculous how much xbox live enhances the games you play (especially if you own certain titles) - the community can be a little idiotic (especially to us Brits) but its nowhere near as bad as its made out to be like, and you can always just take your mic out.

Being able to download demo's for basically every game free of charge is a definite luxury. Some demos are so substantial as well that you could probably get a couple of weeks of play out the console without owning a single game.

Warnings: Dont put it on a carpet (keeps the heat in, more likely to fail)
Dont worry about the RROD too much, play for as long as you want, if it breaks, send it back -  and you'll get it fixed free of charge - its no big deal and the new ones are much less prone to it anyway.

What is xbox live like on a day to day basis? A very well made and taken care of system that allows me to easily play, talk, or message my friends online whenever i want. It is easily the best online service. The marketplace is constantly updating with new content.  New games are always coming out for the 360 that are available to play online. You can even play older 360 games online without fear of the servers being shut down.  The recent flood of great arcade games doesnt hurt either, not to mention the back catalog of arcade games.  The service is down from time to time but it is very rare and usually not for very long.  We recieve updates every year to make the dashboard better than it already is.  If you have to update a game it takes usually about a couple of seconds instead of an hour like with the ps3.

Basically what im saying is that if you want to play online with your friends or with complete strangers there is no better way to do it then through xbox live. I gladly pay the very small amount of 50 bucks a year. It is completly worth it and i plan to be on xbox live for a very long time.

Play with friends. If you don't have any friends with Xbox Live than turn on your mic, be a decent guy, and make some. Xbox Live is the best service available and when you have friends to travel from game to game with your experience will tenfold.

Game recommendations:

Bioshock - just play it; you'll see
Crackdown - awesome arcadey GTA-esque game , good for senseless fun.
Gears of War - well made, great for local 2 player co-op - really intuitive.
Halo 3 - dont believe what others tell you -  awesome game, lacking in storyline but gameplay and production values are unmatched

If you're buying around november time - make sure to pick up Fallout 3, Mirrors Edge, Fable 2 and Gears 2 at the least.

I'm not looking to start an argument but considering i own a PS3 that statement made me lol, no game on the PS3 takes an hour to update a game if a new patch is out it's 3-5 minutes at most.

So i don't know where you get this magical 1 hour mark from.

You have to pay for it. End of my argument.

But yeah, you arent going to get unbiased information/advice here...these xbox boys are just going to tell you that they love it.

There are pro's and cons to each system, but if you look at the specifications, PS3 has a better future.

But don't argue with me, you wont change my opinion.

if you want a 360, get it, i can't change yours either.

That was just the fourth post, too. Didn't do so well with the "unbiased" lark, did we?

As for your question, yes, Live is the best online gaming service there is, the only disadvantages are that you have to pay for it, and the community seems to be somewhat retarded. If you can deal with that, then you should definitely get a 360.

Asking for an unbiased opinion is kinda... a hard thing to ask for bro.

The linked/party chat system is nice. If you end up in public chat is pretty horrific imho. All in all it's seemless but I felt the same lag on PSN as XBL. Your gonna have to think of a trade off for yourself... Honestly I kinda got sick of XBL mostly cause all my friends were on PSN. Appart from that though I just felt bored and hated seeing McDonalds logos and junk... Rather paying to see them... If your into movie DL's and stuff it streams much faster then PSN but thats about it... I am not a big Halo fan or anything so i traded my 360 in and upgraded my PC heavily and now have gears and Bioshock and every other game I liked on PC... That is my opinion as biased or unbiased as you like it... Only thing I feel I will be missing out on is Fable but I'll live... it might come to PC I haven't really looked though...

Let's not kid ourselves here; his post was rather biased. Then again, I'm biased too. So are you. So is Chacron. We're all biased, let's just be happily biased together.

That seems to depend on the game.  Playing GRAW2 is great and there are very few people that I really dislike when I play that.  But then when you switch over to a game like Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4, it's a very different story.

If you like the games and the upcoming games go for it. You do have to pay for live for sure. Its definitely worth paying for live if most of your friends are on live because its a good way to keep in touch with them by playing games chatting whatever, though maybe your friends are on psn, i dunno.

Edit: yeah games like GRAW 2 most people are a more mature.

I never claimed I was being unbiased.

And a signature is a signature, I had considered buying a 360 a long time before I bought my PS3, but I decided to go with the PS3.

I made the signature because I liked the render, and I was able to make art out of it, says nothing about my bias for ps3.

But yes, I do think that if you pay for something you should get a little more out of it. You get just about the exact same thing for free on the PS3, minus a few small things.

Well, everyone seems to hate the British. They were probably nice to you because you come from a magical cave in Albion.

He wanted advice on what xbox live is like / what to expect - He didnt want you to weigh up the pro's and cons of Xbox Live & PSN - he's already said that he has a PS3. Why did you have to drag the console wars in here as well.

AstroZombie1, if you have a ps3 already go for it! why not? why limit yourself to one console when you can get another one?

To be fair, Carnage compared the 360 to the PS3 before doctorb did. But who cares? All in all, he should get a 360, because owning both consoles is a wonderful experience that should be enjoyed by all that can afford to.
