ORIGINAL: LJWooly I personally don't see how a Universal Healthcare plan is dumb. I don't want to hijack the thread by any means, but since it was brought up, I will give you a summary of my views. I used to weigh over 300 pounds. Realizing that this was seriously hazardous to my health and could be very COSTLY with medical bills in the future, I decided to lose some weight. I got all the way down to 213 but I have gradually increased due to laziness (still nowhere near where I was). While my major incentive was to get healthy so I could live longer, another major reason to get my ass in better shape was because I didn't want to have to pay the copays for triple-bypass surgery. If there was Universal HealthCare, where is the incentive for people to take care of themselves? And the quality of care will drastically drop if this goes into effect. The free market is the best thing for any and every situation and you are basically removing it from the most important industry. The system is already screwed eight ways to Sunday because of the pharmaceutical lobbyists in D.C. and the already insane regulations in place today. The answer isn't more regulation, it is less. I could go on for a lot more and counter any objection but I won't. I'll be happy to answer any questions or clarifications of my views via PM.
