The Crystal Bearers - Sunday, August 30, 2009 12:50 PM
I know there was already a thread that talked about Crystal Bearers but I can't find it. Anyway I wanted to start a discussion about it as it's my most anticipated upcoming game now and it could arrive this year!

Anyway the boxart and Japanese release date were shown off recently. The Japanese release date is November 26th and here's the awesome boxart.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone else is looking forward to the game and I'll be posting some videos of trailers and gameplay t some point.

I think it looks amazing.I never thought that Crystal bearers would get that much attention with its fantastic art direction and great Wii graphics.Hope it has a good story and plenty of replay value(New Game +++)

To be honest I'm not surprised(but I'm a fan of Crystal Chronicles anyway). Toshiyuki Itahana's a fantastic artist(and he's Directing Crystal Bearers too), he was Character Designer on FFIX(alongside Amano of course) and according to him Crystal Chronicles Team/Production Team 2/Game Designer Studio is made up of most of the people who worked on FFIX.

I'm not sure about New Game Plus considering the game is Free Roam and is designed closer to a Legend of Zelda game(also Kawazu said GTA was the biggest influence). But it looks like you can just go on the game and adventure anyway. The story that I know so far seems quite good.

One of the main things I'm interested in though is the fact that because Layle doesn't use weapons you have to use the surroundings and enemies as your weapons and they've really got an in depth system for it.

You can use the enemy's arrows

You can do Indy style swinging from bar to bar.

Even use Marlboro's for producing Gold Coins!

Shoot Cactuar pins!

I'll post some more later.

Yes I definitely see the resemblance to FF9 and the Crystal Chronicles team does have its share of Squaresoft veterans.I just hope Nintendo consoles can get a strong entry of the FF series, not just spin offs like Chocobo Fables.

lol Maybe with enough luck, the Wii can get Final Fantasy Hearesis XIII

Well the Chocobo games aren't that bad but yes, I get what you mean. Kawazu and Itahana have said that Crystal Bearers is meant to be more in line with the main games whilst still keeping it different gameplay wise.

The DS is also getting FF Gaiden from Square Enix as well so I think they have the Nintendo platforms well supported. It's clear that the Nintendo console games share more in common with I to VI(and IX) than to the more modern games that are being put on Sony and MS' platform(s).

I love the idea of using enemies as your weapons, it would be more awesome if you can combine them, and even raise your skills with each enemy type...but i doubt it.

Yer.... I don't think it's that in depth but you can physically alter the enemies with some of the Reactions(that's what the interactions are called) as seen in trailer that was with Echoes of Time when a Cactuar grows to a gigantic size.

I think a level up system would be weird...

Im not expecting a level up system since it was ruled out a time ago.
But it would be nice that your "experience" per enemy would grow so you can do more damage depending on the enemy you keep using.

This way you aren't really leveling up, I mean there is no HP/MP whatever increasement.

I knew what you meant but I think it could be complicated, especially with the fact that different areas have different enemies. It'd mean if you had a quest to go to an area you haven't been before you might not have enough EXP with the enemies.

I also like how Kawazu has explained it that Layle is already powerful(which he might not seem compared to other FF heroes but in context he definitely is).

Here's some good footage that shows off the environments. Looks great in my opinion.

This wouldn't really matter, it would just make their attacks stronger, nothing more, not really something thats needed to complete the game.
I think it would have been a nice feature, also for those who like backtracking to make their attack per enemy stronger.

And yes the game looks lovely =).

Crystal Bearers definitely seems more in line with the mainline FFs. Moogles have been redesigned and resemble the mainline moogles more than the Crystal Chronicles ones. The game also features Chocobos and a guy named Cid.

For sure.  Crystal Bearers does keep on evolving which is pretty slick for a franchise.

Oh yes, I forgot to post this but Kawazu has said that they already have plans to expand the Crystal Bearers story through sequels and stuff. He also said that if we like Crystal Bearers there will be definitely be sequels, but with Kawazu( and Crystal Chronicles) I'd say it's more about fan reception than Metacritic score or sales.

You're going to be happy, Spoony. It's hitting America on December 26th, according to Joystiq. Better start that import.

I know, I've read on a few other sites but thanks for posting and reviving the thread. Well I probably won't have to import as Crystal Chronicles games have been released in Europe just a while after their American release.

I am happy though.

Game's going to be awesome.

Well they've discussed it in a few interviews and Kawazu said that longer limbs looks cooler when there's more action going on so they had Itahana(Director and Character Designer) do a more realistic style and they said they wanted Layle to seem a bit older because he's more experienced and that Layle is already powerful when you first play him and the player has to become the hero. Which is also why they don't have a level up system in the game.

The Chibi style is awesome though and makes a lot more sense for the DS games(which are awesome!).

Hehe, they've released/releasing three Crystal Chronicles games just this year(Echoes of Time, My Life as Darklord and Crystal Bearers). I wonder what's next, they might go for a DSiware game, or even a DSiware/Wiiware game using the Pollux engine.
