RE: The Official Motorstorm 2 Appreciation Thread - Thursday, December 04, 2008 12:05 PM

Maddens, I have questions.

-Does each vehicle in the same category have different stats? I think they are slightly different. I'm not sure though.

-What bonus you get when you get a casual online race trophy? It seems like this trophy is super difficult to get.

Korosuke, personally I have not completed the 50 online races (I am 7 races shy at the moment) so I can't speak of the bonus in addition to the trophy that's obtained with the accomplishment.  logontree will be able to best answer that particular question right away since I know he has it.  Since I have almost all the cars in the games (except for a very coveted few) I presume it unlocks a really cool video or even new driver pack.  I can't praise Evo enough for pouring their soul it seems into this game.  I've always loved their racing games, but M2PR takes the cake and devours it in one bite.  The tracks, cars, drivers, music (even though I never play with it on), ambiance (rain, dust, smoke, glare), and the intelligence of computer foes that seems anything but artificial, makes this one of the best (pure) off road racing games I've ever experienced next to the grandaddy of them all...my beloved Gran Turismo.  There...I said it...and yes...it's that good.

As far as the vehicles go Korosuke, yes each vehicle in each class handles a little differently than the others.  At their core, the vehicles share the same basic qualities, i.e.:

Mudpluggers - brute, power through mud and medium to deep water with relative ease...not too heavy on the acceleration and tight turning radius, but can take a punch from a Big Rig or Monster Truck.

Rally Cars - great acceleration and maneuverability (like bikes & ATV's).  Outstanding straight away speed and handling, but deadly poor through sustained runs in water and mud, and don't even think about going against anything a size bigger or you'll be leaving the track early in an ambulance.

The cool thing about each of the eight different classes of cars (like the two above) is that each vehicle in these classes are a little different as aforementioned and add yet even more variety into the game.  When selecting a personal favorite take time to go to the garage and look at things like ride height, tire treading and wheelbase.  These may seem like minor things to the casual passer-by that just want to "jump in" right away, but these small and tiny differences can lend themselves to different drivers in very different ways.  For instance one vehicle in the same class may have a better camber angle setup for you which makes a drifting type of style easier OR may have sturdier struts which makes for a more direct driving approach around corners and up over and through undulations in the track.

This is why there is a trophy called Timesink which is a misnomer because the amount of time you spend to get that trophy is nothing compared to the amount of time you'll spend the rest of your days studying, learning, and understanding the nuances of each track, their hazards, pitfalls, and appropriate shortcuts for each vehicle.  IT'S LIKE TAKING A FREAKING SEMESTER ON MOTORSTORM 2 crammed into summer session.   I won't bore you any longer with all of the other little quirks in this title which make the replay value sit squarely at 10/10 imho.
God this game is the best.

@logontree - have you heard or read if Evo will patch the ability to bring back the 2D garage feature in casual racing (which used to be competitive racing) in M2?  It's no big deal if you're in a ranked ladder but if you're hosting you have to get your "personal favorites" and "stable cars" in the lineup since you can't back out and go to the garage between races as opposed to guest racers.  This to me is the only thin missing from an otherwise massive masterpiece.

RE: The Official Motorstorm 2 Appreciation Thread - Thursday, December 04, 2008 2:01 PM
Well..all vehicles even of the same classs have different characteristics, for example.....I have a buggy called a wasabi beachcomber,it is faster than any other buggy I have on the beach comber board but don't try to run it on the rift as it is really slow but I can use the queen buggy and excel on the rift. So keep in mind which vehicles run better on what tracks..for example...I will use light weight vehicles on some boards and i have three very different vehicles in that class to choose from..those three have their own place on certain boards and i keep them to their own.my dump truck is an aw sum monster truck but i wont run it on the sugar rush as it is too bulky but ill drive it on the razorback..And FYI my favorite vehicle is the monster truck..look for logontree or ezerider on the time trials under monster trucks and you will see I have 7   5th places or better...you do receive special vehicles with each trophy you earn and you have to decipher which is your best as each person is different in their own driving skills..as for the razorback and beating it using a motorcycle...I suggest running time trials and learning how to really excel but the best tip i can give you is go fast! and keep in mind all the tracks have boost sequences on them when running against the ai..I am a motorstormer from way back and yes i wish they would work on the garage some as it would be nice to change up a vehicle without logging offline but it was made like that to speed up the wait on a race and i would rather have faster races than a change over on the garage..as for the posting of the time trials...I'm still having problems,,im sure it will all work out in time..to all who are trying to beat the game i say yes it is hard but not impossible..and the rewards you get for beating those boards are great.plus each step you take in beating the boards the better you get...I will say it was neat to race against someone from on here and glad to see others are starting to enjoy the game

@Maddens and logontree.

Wow, thanks. quite helpfull.

I noticed the difference from using wasabi at beach comber. That's why I questioned it here.

@Dragunov

It's the hardest. I can't find any casual games. The match making always leads me nowhere. I think nobody plays that mode.

Yeah dude as an original Motorstormer I can tell you that this game has fully exceeded my expectations.  I suggest everyone spend a few bucks to rent it; you won't be wasting your money.  Still looking forward to getting in a game of the original 'Storm with you Jack.  I haven't forgot; it's just that our time zones are so opposed, but we'll get around it during the holidays.

@Korosuke - you're welcome man....it's no sweat -- afterall, this is the appreciation thread.

LOL - Jack I saw your invite today and sure enough I'm just getting ready to close up shop and get in some good gaming.  I would really like to get some M1 in with you man...but this weekend will work out well...as I'm sure you're heading to bed soon.

@ logontree -- No I have not entered any tourneys (yet).  Still working on perfecting times and completing the game.  Going back to Dragunov's and Korosuke's concerns about the lack of casual game participation, a thought hit me the other day while playing:  There are a lot of guys and gals that are probably doing the same thing as I --- learning and perfecting times on all of the new tracks.  This isn't your big brothers Motorstorm.  There is a lot to learn...and I'm sure once more people start gaining more confidence, you will start to see more casual rooms.  btw -- I usually host a pretty good round of races nearly every  or every other night (
for as long as I can) so be on the look out.  Most of you are on my friends list, but for those of you that aren't (and want to join in on the fun) --- you know what to do.  Oh...and the Motorstorm 2 Club is still full...sorry.

@logontree -- great, great races the other night man.  I don't know what that one guy "speedy1" was on about though -- he needs to sthu -- I think he only won one race...

Kinda annoyed btw, checking out the PSP store today just looking around, decided to check out the recent stuff I've downloaded. Going down the list I found out I was in the Motorstorm PR private beta and was never told.

Now i must try the platinum trophy, the 3 win streak can cost me ages, i'm in gold hero now and the people is FAST. I managed to get 2 wins sometimes but the in the 3rd i'm out of luck, bad track for me, bad vehicle, agressive opponents in the start or a combination of those things
I
t's possible to create a race and later change to ranked, maybe i can cheat with friends?

Yeah, that was some good racing,Maiden. You race fast. If i swaggered any you took

me and did it clean too I might add. Hats off to you on that one. Speedie was one of

the fastest racers on Ms1, He doesnt take losing well, he will come around

though, maybe. I raced him for the last year, everyday for one hour,as we do on Ms2

now. He is spoiled with the concept of clean driving because, we as a group, each

morning, practice not hitting one another. But not all do so and he isnt adapting to it

so well.

^^^ that's pretty funny...didn't know he was in your clan though....but he was chatting up the game more & more that it wasn't good -- the more he lost, and that was upsetting me a bit..at the time...[sm=AC59328052CC45E8ABFD70A6A6035B8C.gif]

a/w as promised here is another treasure trove of goodies from Evo.  Christmas comes early for Motorstorm fans.  This is by far the best off-road racing game that I've ever played in my life and the most fun I've had racing on a Playstation console since Gran Turismo 4.

This is the Real game of the year.

Can you see me?  No?  I'm on the 450.

I thought the game was probably a bad selling Q4 victim, but it's sold 1 million. Yay!
