ORIGINAL: thor ORIGINAL: Maddens Raiders ...finally in the Platinum Club...[sm=DB24987736544D1689145AD5D1C6BAB6.gif] Congrats! I must say, this is one of the few games I'm going for a platinum trophy on. It's simply the best off-road racer ever, and were it not for Wipeout HD it could have been THE best racer ever in my book. It's those emergent possibilities - just like Warhawk - that make the game so special. In Warhawk you have a sniper attacking a guy with a flamethrower attacking a tank attacking a warhawk attacking an APC - and a binoculars strike comes in and blows them all up. It's so rich with strategy and emergent possibilites that, whilst they are intended, they would be scripted sequences in any other game. Have you gone up a jump in a monster truck, done a barrel roll through a tower, landed and boosted through to win the race? Have you ducked out of the way of a monster truck as it's closing in to crush your bike? Maybe this has happened in other games, but it would be a scripted sequence. What's especially fun is owning people on an APC when they're all using bikes on Mudslide - making the right choice of vehicle when everyone else doesn't. What's even more exciting is the fact that there's not necessarily a best vehicle choice; you could have 1, 2, 3 as big rig, bike and rally car. It's just so exciting; especially when you're holding onto the lead. The AI could rubber-band less; I swear the AI's total race time can vary by as much as 30 seconds depending on how fast you go - and if you're in the lead, you can guarantee that by crashing you'll go down into 4th or something. Also, even if you're in last, it's easy to catch up, because unlike online races, where everyone's times are spread out by more than 30 seconds in some cases, the AI opponents are always within about 3 seconds of one another. This makes it very different from online races, where if you crash at the start, you're unlikely to win. Still, it seems that if you put in an all-round good performance you're more likely to win, and the rubber-banding is not as noticable since most races are only 2 laps. It's a shame to see there's no eliminator mode online (or split-screen for that matter) - I mean why is that? There's an eliminator mode in the festival so why not online? Lag is almost unbearable at times; I was in one race where the guys were telling each other over the mic where they were in the race. Which was more efficient than the game doing the same thing. Because I thought I was in first, when the guy shouted out "Yeah! That's it! I've won!" - and it still said I was in first, but then when I crossed the finish line I came in "3st". I don't know what happened to their promise of 24/16 players online or however many it was. 12 was what the first game offered. But anyway, back to racing, I'm Gold Hero at the moment so I'm edging my way up to Legend rank. Platinum here I come! PSN: Aspherex there are so many great things in that post, but i'll point to one which is not really a commendation of the game, but a complaint, which is the lag that enters some games which is mainly due to players with very s l o w connections entering the game. i'm sure that Evo could lock out some of these slower speeds but that would probably end up in an even bigger uproar from people not being able to get in. thank goodness i have a 20MB connection that gives me plenty of speed, but if i play against a buddy that's playing on say a 5 or 3MB connection, the difference and lag is sooooo evident. otherwise, your post on the variance and strategy of this racer is spot on.....the comparisons and breakdown to WarHawk could not have been stated better myself.....Bravo.....Bravo.... ...as far as the best racer i've ever played? no that still goes to the legendary Gran Turismo series, but have no doubt about it, i like you believe that....Motorstorm 2: Pacific Rift is the best off-road racing game of ALL-TIME. people that own a PlayStation 3 must have this game in their library...as far as the Eliminator and other things you touched on that you still want to see in the game, let me remind you, that like Incognito, EVO will continue to deliver massive amounts of DLC to this game just as they did to M1. Motorstorm 2: Pacific Rift is still a very young title... ORIGINAL: Korosuke @Madden Conglratulation!! I still have 20 dev ghosts ...thanks Korusuke.....hang in their you will get them in no time.....I'd say 3 ~ 4 hours tops if you stick to it..... add me! ORIGINAL: Dragunov CONGRATS MADDENS! Man i can't connect with you, but i can with everyone else. Let's celebrate your platinum with some Atlas Earthquake races! @Thor: I'll add you, a wipeout hd player is always welcome. Get the legend rank and play in custom races, much more fun thank you eldioni, i can't believe how hard it was to finally break through.....the thing about it is that i still want to play this game and there are so many things to still do from a personal perspective.......how many times can it be said......EVO hit a f'n Home Run with this title.. as far as connecting to me i still don't know what the hell is going on there.....have you tried actually switching to the NA server before accepting my invite? ORIGINAL: Violater Evo Studios and the wipeout team have been merged, hope no one gets laid off. And on topic this is one Platinum I'm def not going to be able to get. Maybe unless maddens draws out a map with routes for each vehicles for me, like my Garmin would ...dammit Vio, yes you can get the Platinum if you stick to it.....come race with me and get around the tracks with a proper line...i will be your GPS.... ORIGINAL: puff-n-stuff Maybe someday if i get more controllers i'll get the platinum trophy and the altas earthquake ...Great to see you HH!!!!!!!! i didn't even know you were a member of N4G....dude that's awesome...spread the word.....to join the 'G... on the other part of your comment, i know how good you are, so even if you don't have the other controllers, i'll be wary of you on the track.. Lastly, i just want to say that (you all already know how i feel about the actual game) the soundtrack to this game rocks.....i really, really like it a lot and wish there was a CD of the Pacific Rift mix.........go buy it today people....it's a gem! adios
and another thing..... ...you kept reading!...
