When using "Other" to report, most people don't realize that it will disable the possibility for the original author to "fix" it.

I suggest that the "Other" report becomes fixable, as in many cases it's not an issue like "Duplicate", "Lame" or "Old" that can't be "fixed".

If the report field turns into a discussion, people can cancel their old reports to repost them, but my opinion is that such "discussions" should not be there in the first place.

I think the intent here is that it not be fixable.  For the instances when someone is marking things as fixed, without fixing them.  I believe it's intended as a safeguard.

Well, in most cases I have seen, this has not been the case, and surely it would be easier to just use one of the definite "non-fixable" reports instead then?

I have seen bogus reports mroe often than bogus fixes. That may be because I rarely do mistakes when posting ;)

This is starting to be a problem. If someone wants to permanently shut down an idiot contrib, they have several choices to do that.

People are far more common to use "Other" when in doubt on what to put.

You could also rename other to "Nuke" or somethign that obviously describes the permanency of the choice.

http://www.n4g.com/xbox360/NewsPending-167188.aspx Just take a look at this story as an example. The guy used Xbox Kings as a source but it was the wrong source. So I made a "wrong source" report and gave him the correct sources but then he marks it as "fixed." I then post an "Other" report as a safeguard to let people know that "Hey this story is not actually fixed, don't approve it."

If you have fixed the problem as stated in the "Other" report then just PM the reporter to have him cancel it. Otherwise I'm sure contributors have enough common sense to look down at an "Other" report and see if it's fixed or not before approving, well most do.

Well, I understand, and there are a few of the report options that are not fixable, such as "Other", "Spam", "Old", etc. The problem I have come across is that people use "Other" because they are too lazy to use a correct one, on their FIRST report. If it's only about a link fix, there's no possibility for the contrib "fix" the report.

All I'm saying is that a generic report such as "Other" is used as freely as breathing by loads of morons. It's a lot easier to try and change the word "Other" to "2:nd Report" or "You didn't fix if FFS, now FIX it!" than to get into people's head that "Other" is this exceptional report button that only should be used if the original contrib himself is the moron.

OR, the fact that "Other" is a permanent report should be explained on somewhere more than just "trial and error".

The amount of contribs that don't reply their PM's in a timely fashion (or AT ALL) is also like 95%.
