There were things I found superior to the '03 Hulk, and things I disliked. In the end I think I'll give the edge to the Ang Lee's. Liv Tyler irritated the hell out of me as Betty with her dry acting, and she ruined almost every scene she was in for me, Jennifer Connelly wins. While this Hulk was outstanding looking (moreso due to the fact that CG skills and tools have greatly advanced in the past 5 years), he was weak compared to the 03 Hulk. The old Hulk was a force of nature, hammer tossing tanks, skyjacking planes, using his super jump, and not to forget that he did get pissed and grow in power and in size in the movie. So visually the new Hulk wins but old Hulk will still kick his ass. The main villain is a tossup, unfortunately I'm cursed with knowledge of the Hulk from the comics so I already know about Emil/Abomination etc. I don't think his motives were properly conveyed in this flick and in the end only appeared to be instrumental in that last anticlimatic fight. Action wise he was an awesome villain, but Nick Nolte brought the story and the emotion, with a ****ty fight. Oh and I'm glad they didn't bring anymore gamma dogs in. .. I've given the storyline to the 03 version because the origin was deeper than "Gamma Rays = Hulk". There was a reason it happened to him so it seemed less of a freak accident. Also, everyone's intentions were well defined so none of the main cast felt like filler. The comic book panels did an awesome job of portraying a comic book film and I was wondering why no one else followed that cue. This Hulk took a few origins and mixed them to create its own so I give them credit for sticking to the source material. Now as far as Eric Bana vs Ed Norton, this one was a bit hard but I still think Eric gave a better performance as Bruce. I think I could attribute that to the overall storyline delivering more drama and exposition than this one. Also, the Liv Tyler thing. .. Overall I thought the movie was dope, but I still liked the old one more and for some reason I still don't know why people pissed all over the old one. Marvel's on a good path with doing their own movies though, I wish they could take Xmen and Spiderman back.
