I never really cared for the Nintendo DS but that game has me seriously considering buying one (PS360Wii might be happy to hear that).

I'm not so good with words so I won't try to explain what the game is about, anyone interested check the preview from 1up, the game looks awesome.

Oh I am happy to hear that  I'm also suprised someone else started this thread then me!

Yeah this game really does look cool.  I like the idea of controlling one with the touch screen and the other with button presses all at the same time.  Along with there sounds to be a heck of a lot of equipment.  Glad to see Square Enix dip into the new idea bin and give it a go ^^

I was going to do a search to see if you had started this thread already but I came to the sad realization that the handled section fits on one page.

Looking at the battles it reminds me of how frantic and awesome the battles in Tales of Destiny and Star Ocean2 were on the PS1. I still have to wrap my mind about having to deal with basically 2 battles simultaneously.

Foreal, I totally thought this thread was a product of PS360WII

EDIT:

heyheyhey, you're missing out on a LOT of awesome games w/ that mindset.

Anyway, I'm actually intimidated by The World Ends With You.  Controlling two things at once on two different screens just seems mindblowing lol

yeah heyheyhey I do have to say that is the worst mindset to have with the DS.  DS is for anyone who wants to play the best of the best and have some fun games when they want to as well.

Yeah it's a shame that we only have 1 page worth of topics of handheld glory   Not to many people dig the portable gaming side of the world which is a shame.

The frantic battles do look tough and it'll be fun to figure out how to fight 2 battles at the same time.

Just get one, if you have the spare cash laying around. The problem I have with the Nintendo DS is that there isn't really a lot of good games. In fact, it reminds me of the Nintendo Wii. A few good games here and there, but the rest... 3rd party rubbish.

I own Mario Kart DS, Tetris DS, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, New Super Mario Bros. & Metroid Prime Hunters. The thing is, after beating those titles, I never touched my handheld again.

So like I said, if you have the spare cash laying around,sure... Go for it, man.

Frankly the name alone has me interested.

The World Ends With You sounds EPIC.  Can't wait to hear more about this game.

the psp 2 hasn't yet been confirmed has it?

And anyway, this may be judging a book by its cover but heyheyhey you say that you would only get the ds for ninja gaiden: dragon sword. I don't really see why, did you see the commercial they made it seems like you poke an enemy on the screen with a stylus and they get slashed and die.

I guess your probably right

but there hasn't been much on the DS that's really caught my eye apart from Ninja Gaiden (but thats only because I love anything to do with Ninja Gaiden)

I dont know, it just seems there's no point of owning a DS- if I need a handheld with me, il take my PSP- because of all the media and stuff I have stored on it

I might heed your suggestion, after all- its so cheap, there's no way I can regret buying it

I don't know I just really enjoy it.  The DS does get a lot of flack for being Nintendo.  You could buy an R4 as well for multimedia stuff and all that.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread Douchbaggery but I'm gonna   It all depends on what games you look at for it being a kids handheld or not.

Lets take the PSP for a sec.  Hot Shots Golf, Every Extend Extra, Lemmings, Crush, Loco Roco, Lummies, Mercury it's nothing but a casual system and only good for people who don't like heavy plots and long games.  (exaggeration yes but you get the idea)

DS you have Contra 4, Ninja Gaiden, Dementium, Advance Wars, Castlevania games, and a slew of Square Enix titles including The World Ends With You (oooh didn't ditter to bad still talked about the game) and the list goes on.

Hey just noticed both game lists I've made for DS and PSP are gone

It is definitely an epic game.

I got the Japanese version shortly after it was released, and I've just been adoring it ever since.

In fact, I love it so much that I went for the English language version as well. My Japanese is mediocre (I have problems with some kanji) so I want the English version so I can better appreciate the storyline.

I especially love the twists and turns that pop up throughout the story.

Alright so first off sweet game   Like the reviews say you start off waking up in the middle of the street.  You can hear people's thoughts and no one can see you.  You can see them and creatures as well!  They are attacking you and you try and run away to no avail soon a girl runs up asking you to purge with her and then you have a partner and you can fight.

Starting off it's good to just focus on the bottom screen and you have a fire one to mess around with.  For you you just need to swipe the stylus in empty areas around the enemy and will attack the monsters.  The move only has a limit then it'll need to re-charge.  You get more moves which are called pins some of which is a melee attack, bullet type, lightning strike, and can throw objects at the enemy.

You find out that this is all a game that you are in and you have missions each day for 7 days.  If you don't finish the mission you will be erased.  There are people who also try to stop you from getting the mission complete and people who are there to watch you.  It's all very in the dark type stuff.  Once you get use to the bottom screen you can then bounce off combos.  There is this green ball that moves between the two if you get consecutive hits.  For her on the top screen you need to press the buttons on the side the enemies are on her.  So if the mosters are on the right side all you need to do is hit right to start her combo.

The music is pretty good to.  In the world and battles it's a ambiant house type song playing and in menus it's a sweet piano/guitar remix playing.  For voice work it's just one worded lines like "what" "hey" and that nature which work with what the conversation is playing out.  Graphics are very slick as well and the use of both screens is done nicely.

Yea for sure.  This game is in a league of it's own just for being so different.  The ripten review has it right 5 years ago no one outside of Japan would of seen this game   So it's a good thing we are in the here and now and get to play this fine game.

It even rewards you for not playing even!  Before I turn off the system I equip some pins I normally don't use and save.  Then when I turn it back on I get exp for them and the longer it's off the more pp (pin points) I get

Food and clothing is pretty slick too.  I bought clothes only to find out the main guy couldn't wear them yet because he didn't have enough bravery  that's when I hunted out some food.  Many things to play around with and while I'm a fan of random battles this is okay too.  In the world you don't see enemies just people but once you scan you see the noise everywhere.  You just need to point at them with the stylus and you are brought into a battle.  So you can either go from mission to mission or fight everything and get exp and cash and pp (which is what I do)

This was one of the games that made me reconsider getting a DS Lite. I had the fat one when it came out and there was nothing on it that interested me so I got rid of it and kept the PSP. But lately it seems the DS is getting stuff that actually interests me so I'll be picking one up soon, and Sega's World Destruction game has Xenogears members on board so that was an instant buy.

bumping this up

Okay so anyone else playing this?  I spent a good portion of my weekend on this game.  I'm up to level 31 and I play on the hard setting which you bring yourself to level 1.  I have been mastering a bunch of pins but and my favorite combo is the slash followed by bullet firing then an iceberg.  Oh yeah

I just got to new and harder noise (mosters) and I just got to this side game.  Tin Pin Slammer which you need to slam others pins off a board to win.  I'm still learning that stuff, but it's nice to have a seperate game in a game like Square Enix pulls all the time.  I suprised I didn't read about it....
