The Xbox killed gaming, if MS had never created it, devs would still care about PC gaming. Personally I blame you.

Besides direct X microsoft never did anything for pc gaming, they were never great pc publishers and never did anything to push the platform, i don't see how the x-box has anything to do with it. PC gaming is better of without microsoft involvement. If they were involved they would charge for dx licensing and everyone would have to pay them to use the platform, luckily for gamers nvidia and ati are pulling the pc gaming string's on the API side of things.

I was just trolling in response to snick's trolling. I'm too poor to afford a good pc, but I want one for Starcraft 2. PC gaming is a little weak at the minute though (MMORPGs aside), it's not getting the attention it needs.

You could use the PC i posted that cost 306 dollars, but replace the 9500 with a Nvidia 9800... would cost maybe 20 more dollars and would easily handle any game (cept crysis, you could play crysis but only at medium settings).

Maybe I will.

A 9800 GT will easily play Crysis at a good resolution on DX9 High settings. Hell, I was able to play on medium with two 7600 GT's back in the day.

By the way, about the controller argument:
I've spent a majority of my life playing console FPS games. I can hold my own in console FPS games whether it be Halo or Killzone, so it's not really a matter of adaptation.

My friend got me into Counter Strike. It took all of 5 minutes to get used to the basic controls and everything went up from there.

Might i remind you that the year is not 1996, and that youre over exaggerations hold no weight anymore. Just because you cant adapt, doesnt mean you gotta **** all over it.

lol console idiots, the lowest form of intelligence on this planet.

I've played console and pc shooters, goldeneye was one the best fps's of all time, but this is not about which is the better control scheme....anyone who has played both knows that pc is 1000 times better for shooters, it is more accurate, Fact. You don't need to play games competitively to see that mouse/keyboard is a better way to play fps games. Pc's will always have better graphics. Which brings me back to my question, what exactly is superior about the 360 version?

I've played both and I prefer controllers, Fact.

Not gonna argue about the graphics thing but I payed 300 for my xbox. How much was your PC?

300usd for the xbox.. mmm lets make it a bit more clear... cause there are many hidden costs of owning the xbox. i belive console gaming is alot more expensive then gaming on a pc.

here is a comparison for you xbox vs pc, over 5 years time.

consoles are more costly then pc. heres why:

The price difference between console and pc games are enough to turn the tide.

PC gaming doesnt need yearly upgrades maybe on the 3rd year minor gpu upgrade will be good. upgrades are not needed anymore because games are now made with consoles in mind, hence progress has become stagnant. which is why even a pc created 2 years ago with a 8800gtx will constantly outperform a console for the rest of the generation, while costing the user cheaper.

cost of playing a xbox 360 for 5years (assuming it doesnt fail and you dont need to buy a new one)

300usd price for the console
250usd for xbox live
4425 usd price for games (over a period of 5 yrs if only 15 games are bought a year)

cost of playing the xbox 360 over 5 years 4975usd

While paying the above costs the console user played at 720 or below graphics and low/med res textures, no mod support, no kb/mouse support.

Cost of playing on pc:

500usd for a gaming pc
150usd gpu upgrade after 3years
3675usd cost of 5 years of games 15 games each year (pc games cost 49usd instead of 59usd so cost is much lower)

PC gaming cost the user usd4325  over a period of 5 years. while it provided user with higher resolutions, overall better experience and the user didnt get ripped buy middle men like sony or micro. Overall the pc was cheaper by 650usd. This gap increases as more games are bought, more taxes for sony or micro.

also note the 360 does 720p at best and once the pc user gets the 150usd upgrade 3 years later his system will again be very capable of handling the latest games... 360 on the other hand by that time will be doing 480 or for the same game while the pc user will still be at 1080p.

console gaming is costly in the long run.. dont let the initial 300usd price tag fool you.

so true, this will be a good test for my gpu, there haven't been any new games coming out in a while, i know it's a multiplat but i hope it's not more demanding than fallout 3, it's hard to guage if games are getting graphically more demanding because of the multiplat thing, but i don't mind i'll gladly have every game as a multiplat if it means more games...and they don't just port it directly

Good post at least you don't have that smug elitist attitude.

anyways 15 games a year? I don't even own 15 games for my xbox and of the ones I do own only 3-4 were bought new the rest were all bought used at 20-30$ tops. Can you buy PC games used? (I honestly don't know)

As for xbox live the only time I have payed 50$ is the first time I bought it the second time I payed 40$ and the last one I bought I found on ebay for 35$. It surprises me that a PC guy would turn his nose to this but then go and spend 3-4 hundred on a cpu/gpu that will be outdated in 2-3 years. I like my PC for browsing the web and a little gaming I actually just picked up TF2 for $2.50 today off of steam. But I still prefer playing on consoles maybe one day this will change but I just don't see this happening in the near future. Call it what you will but I started gaming on a console and I will finish gaming on a console just my preference

Yes, it's a matter of personal preference, always has been. I actually started on consoles, but found PC to be the complete package. The initial cost is expensive indeed, but it lasts. You don't need to upgrade every month as most claim. Only the insanely rich or the really insane do it on a monthly basis, and that too only because it's their hobby(probably meaning they have nothing better to do :P ).

True, PC gaming is slowly losing it's fan base and/or popularity. But I blame that on Microsoft for abandoning PC gaming for the Xbox. To them the PC comes off as an afterthought, an automatic second-favorite. Considering all that, I think PC gaming is still doing surprisingly good on it's own. Like it or not, you can't write it off completely because it's the heart of next-gen gaming tech.

well to be honest.. its not hard for most of us to buy 15 games a year.. most gamers i know they buy upto 20 games a year. 1-2 games a month are easy. so it really depends how much you play. the more games you buy at launch the cheaper pc gaming gets.

also remember.. that everyone needs a pc at home for work... ppl dont need consoles at home if they are low on finance. As i am sure you surf the web on a pc. Even if its 2 years old, making it gaming enabled would only cost you 150usd (far lower then the price of a console), a 150usd investment in a gpu would bring a 2 yr pc to power levels which is enough to last this generation and constantly play all games @ true hd aka 1080p 60fps, those are resolutions consoles just cant handle.

i agree its a matter of preference, however pls dont use cost as a reason to be playing consoles.

Having both a high end gaming pc ,which i built earlier this year and a PS3 i bought a month ago, I will say FPS is much better on pc than console. I bought killzone 2 for Ps3 and have an 8 percent kill ratio!  I will add that I go way back To the original half life so  I have played a long time. I think its cool to play my Ps3 on a 52 inch monitor, its just easier for me to shot with mouse and keyboard. younger players find consoles easier because they grew up with them where as an old guy like me didnt even know what a computer was in high school. I will agree computers for gaming can be expensive but I built one for around 500.00 dollars that allows me to play crysis at 1600 by 1200 with all the eye candy at about 40 frames per second. consoles arent cheap when you start adding accesories. Well  that my 2 cents.

That advice is surely worth more than 2 cents. I agree, but i've had console's and pc's, since waaaaaaaaaaaay back when tie fighter and doom 1 were graphical marvels ( I also had an atari), but pc is a lot more versatile, as well as the often overlooked fact that pc's are not only used for gaming, therefore most people already have one...just add a new gpu every few years etc)

Good Advice

I keep telling people that if you have a multicore desktop machine all you need to do is slap in a midrange GPU in there and BAM! you have a rig as good as any 360 out there, AND you have free internet multiplayer.
