User Name Changes
-
Thursday, May 08, 2008 11:23 AM
The staff at N4G have come to a decision that user name changing will no longer be permitted by the user. If you do not like the user name that you have chosen, change it to something that you do desire, as we will be implementing the block on name changing soon. If your user name contains anything that anybody finds offensive (this includes off-color humor, racism, profanity, etc...), you will be asked only once to change it, or it will be changed for you. If you do, in the future, wish to change your user name, you may PM a moderator or administrator with a valid reason as to why you want the change. We thank you for being cooperative with your user names as we implement this change soon. If you have any questions or issues please direct them to this thread, or again, PM a moderator or administrator.

too many name changes? too bad this wont help all the people making multiple accounts tho...is there a way to keep people from duplicating names? I never ran into that problem but I was just wondering if that is an issue

well i was just saying, some people will just make new profiles like all those new members...they arent actually that many new people, its just some people making multiple accounts... I was saying that b/c i wish there was something they could do to stop that like make it so that you have to have a certain amount of posts b4 you can create topics or something of that sort. I hate walkin in on a topic and looking at how many ppl got attracted to the flamebait, yet the person who created it had only 1 post and never reposted after that...but i don't know why we cant change our user names, I guess I just want a reason for that.

I hate parting with toughNAME but the image I have fashioned myself on the main page cannot follow me to other sites. The N4G toughNAME is dead. I agree with you man...and so do a lot of people. You would think that would inspire change?

We can IP ban the people with mutiple accounts, how the problem with that is the fact that some people will have a static and dynamic IP. Sometimes you can IP ban the offender and end up banning alot of other people by mistake. Personally, I think there should be an appeal system for when you get banned, so you guys can give us a valid reason as to why you think your ban should be shorted or eliminated.

I agree, I've said that before in regards to the GamerZone. Personally, being able to appeal a ban in front of multiple mods/admins to review is much better than having a single mod who can ban for up to 30 days (probably more).
