What Playstation 3 would you recommend?
-
Sunday, November 01, 2009 9:37 AM
Not so long ago my launch 60gb PS3 died. I've been looking at getting it repaired and its going to cost £128 from Sony and that would be replacing it with another refurbished console. I'm not too keen on that so I think I will just buy a new ps3. Would you recommend getting a PS3 Slim or a fat 80gb? Are there any advantages one has over the other? Which of the two runs quieter?

Get the new PS3 Slim. The only difference is the fat PS3's have the linux OS, while the Slim's dont, and if you want it to run quieter, that will depend on where you place the console in your home - but i would go with the slim (Y).

Odds are that the Slim runs a little quieter and cooler than the fatties, and they have a sizeable HDD out of the gate.

I say get the 80gig over the slim. The slim is nice but being able to put a new os on the 80 was a real plus. I cant do that with my slim which sucks. I say being able to stream hulu and backing up br movies on your hdd is a bigger plus then the slim plus the fact that you can just upgrade the hdd easily. But if your not going to do that then get the slim.

Slim is quieter, but runs hotter at times.

Well, if you don't wanna have BC and PS3 Linux, then get a Slim. And if you don't need BC, and don't wanna have a Slim at all, then take the latest 40GB Modell; CECHH. It has its components reworked and also features an improved double-lens BD drive (KEM-410ACA).

z-hayden I like the look better too(web shots don't do the slim justice) So I went ahead and just got a Slim yesterday :D It really is great, and I totally agree with you z-hayden; it looks a lot nicer than I thought it would. I actually would say it looks better than my 'late' 60gb fat ps3. edit: oh and i also got it at a great price too, £186 for the console and a ds3.
