I'm glad that we finally have custom soundtracks and in-game messaging, but when do you think we will start to see things like in-game chat, cross-game invites?  I'm a little disappointed that it took so long for fw 2.40 to get here, and yet those features are still not included.  Oh well, I guess we now at the very least have a basic way of talking to someone, I just wish we could have seen some in-game chat.

Do you want the PS3 to make VOIP calls for you as well?

Or perhaps become your personal financial accountant.

Probably the next firmware update after this or Home, getting this here now was more important than for waiting for everything else to make it in. Besides aren't cross game invites technically in? Aside from the auto launching, I could still invite someone to Tekken who's playing Warhawk and they launch Tekken and get into my room from the invite I sent.

You know, personally, they could stop updating the PS3 and I would be satisfied with 4.0. It's everything they said they would deliver and now some people, who may never be satisfied with anything in their life (probably including their death) and would want more.

Let 2.4 come out and then judge what you want based on what you're even using when those features come.

It just really irks me everytime when they give the masses what they've been bitching over and someone beings to pipe up on something more.

Yh, almost every online game have a invite option or join game option and with messaging and launching games inside of another game,  cross-game invites is practically in 2.40. Voice chat might be in this firmware but I dont think it will be unless its a surprise.

Don't get so hostile man.  Its not asking too much for in-game chat.  I loved the days when I could talk to my friends for hours on end while playing a different game than them on my 360.  And yeah, I will probably never be satisfied, but theres satisfaction, and expectations, and in-game chat was an expectation of mine, ever since fw 2.40 was announced.  Satisfaction will come when my ps3 has the exact same features, and more, than the 360.  But all I need right now after fw 2.40 to be pleased is in-game chat, and the cross game invite feature, and not by individual game, but by the xmb itself.  I cannot invite someone to my warhawk game if they are playing resistance.  I can, but I have to notify them by message that I want to play a game with them, and then they would also have to pop in the game just to GET the invite.

Whats wrong with asking for more anyways?  Thats how improvements are made.  If no one complained, then we would just be stuck with the exact same games that came out at launch, or the exact same features.  Complaining is a good thing.  And the end result can only be good for the consumer, so why would you care if someone is asking for too much?  Do you work at sony?  Do you care for their well being?  I can guarantee they don't give 2 shits about you, so I don't see why you try to defend their products like they are perfect as they are, unless you do actually work for sony, and you're getting pissed off that you're actually gonna have to do more work, but since I'm fairly certain you don't, I really don't understand this hate for constructive critisism that you have.

You talk about cross game invite, but if the other person is already playing another game, they'll have to leave the game and put Warhawk in (save if they dont have the download version) anyway just to get to the game. If you can write them a message saying "hey, get on whatever game and i'll wait for you in the lobby or join this specific game" then whats the problem?
XBL - You're playing COD, he's playing Army of 2. You send him a cross game invite, and then what? Can he join your game while Army of 2 is in his box? No. He'll have to put COD in. from there he'll get your invite for your room or w/e. So what's so much different thatn you sending him a message detailing "Look, im in the lobby waiting, put in COD and get the invite."

Yea, voice communications sound fun with two people playing two games, and I'd like it too, but I'm more than content with this update and can wait a long while for such a feature. Especially considering, if I'm playing online on a game, chances are I'm on my headset talking to my teammates. If im playing a single player game I want to be left alone.

And as for Tempists post, I feel the same. At least, if he means that we just got a huge update with alot of features people wanted, and abunch of cool stuff added as well, why are people STILL complaining so soon even though the update hasnt even dropped yet. There's complaining, and then there's letting it be known that "Awesome update, hopefully in the next one so and so happens"

See?

Honestly, I see this update as laying the groundwork for all future functionality that involves in-game XMB.

Now that we have this, it'll be possible for them to work on in-game chat, in-game browser (one day probably a reality).

The way I see it, the hard work is all done, now they just add on to it.

The difference is that xbox lives version automatically launches you into the lobby, instead of having to sort through hundreds of them to find it.
And you haven't given a reply to my 2nd paragraph.  What is wrong with that logic?  Complaining/ConstructiveCriticism=Better Product=Better for the cosumer.  Maybe you say something like "you should be more greatful" well I disagree (by the way I don't see why you should even care about sony as a company, since they do not care about you, just your money, so you should ONLY care about their product).  I bought the console the day it came out, full price, which was way overpriced compared to now.  The 360 had those features out of the box at 400.  The ps3 didn't have even close to those features at 600 out of the box.

So yeah, I do expect those features and rightfully so.

And the difference there is that on the PS3 version as soon as you press play online you're in one lobby to yourself where you can invite any of your friends to your party. So..there is no such thing as shfiting through hundreds of them.

Some of us actually have real life friends that have ps3's and would like to talk to them while playing a game.

yeah have a cookie- you have frrrriiiiiieeeennnddss

so do I, and I'm perfectly fine sending them messages or calling them up on the phone so I don't have to stop playing the game

but yeah ok, on second thought- that feature would be pretty cool actually- just not crucial is all

Okay, say for instance I'm playing CoD4, and someone wants to play a match of warhawk with me.  They can only message me about the game, they cannot just send an invite, and also, they have to waste time writing a message to anyone else they want to play with by the way instead of just a one click invite button like the 360 has.  But whatever, so he finally gets the message sent to me.  So, I read it, quit my game, pop in warhawk, go to buddies, and join his game.  It works, but its nowhere near seamless.  On the 360, I can just recieve an invite, quit my game, put in the other disc, and it will launch me straight to that lobby from the dashboard without having to go through all the menus.

Trust me, I'm not a 360 fanboy, as you probably think I am, but those are some damn good features that would improve psn waaaaayyy past xbl.

I don't mean to insult you and insinuate that you do not have any friends, but I was assuming that none, or not very many of your friends own ps3, since it is like that with my community.  Everyone here owns 360's and I know 2 people that actually have a ps3, and I'd like to be able to speak to them.
