I'd get the Seagate 160. They're both Seagate 5400rpms either one you choose.

I can't imagine it'd make any difference but it's better on the 160 slightly. It's a better deal than the 120 by far.

Lucas22, go check Canada Computers. They sell 250GB 2.5" SATAs for like $110

http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=017804&cid=HD.517.47

You really got to shop around a bit better at times.

I am planning to upgrade my HDD as well. Does the speed need to be 5400RPM or can you pick a faster one like 7200RPM.

Also do you need to format it or put it into the PS3 straight out of the box?

Don't waste money on the 7200. They'll be hotter and you won't notice any performance difference.

What you have to do is backup the harddrive you have now using the option under system preferences, pull the old one out, put the new in, format it and restore the back up from the old harddrive.

The manual will walk you through it, but know that all information on the old harddrive once the new one is in will be unaccessible. Ever.

Thanks for the help. I didn't know the PS3 can backup files when you change th hard drive. So it wipes the old hard drive at the same time?

Not exactly. It tags the new harddrive with some form of a serial number or code into the OS, so if any other harddrive is placed into it, the PS3 will not start the OS loaded on the drive you put into it. You would have to format the drive again to get it to work. So basically the PS3 will only recognize one hard drive at a time as being it's core hard drive. Hence why you have to back up the old one before replacing and formatting.

I personally only trust and rely on Seagate drives. They are the only ones that I've never had fail on me.

I guess after that you could try Western Digital.
