So, anyone watched this yet?  I went and rented the HD version, and it looked absolutely great, but then again most anime does anyways when played on a decen dvd player, and I don't feel like paying for both to measure the difference.

As with any series, it'll take a few episodes to really understand what's going on, but so far I'm positive on the show and its characters.  Not much has been reveales so far, but you've got skyships, warring factions, and some elitist guild running around sending kids to do their dirty work.  And thanks to the beginning, I'm goingi to always be thinking about people swallowing condoms >_>.  Anyways, shows promise, and I'm not one to ever doubt Bones or the quality of their work.

During the intro song, I got all upset at how lazy they were to sub the dialogue, but not provide a kaoroke of the song.  Then I realized it was actually in English

It sucks that we can't actually KEEP the episodes.  I'm all for paying the developers and all, which is why I'd by anime vs. fansubs if they'd actually release them stateside in a timely manner.  But geesh, that much just to be able to watch it for 1 day and not keep it?  They claim they have two seasons already too.  That's going to get quite expensive if it becomes something I want to stick with.

And two side notes not dealing with the anime:

1. Why isn't there a "buy entire season" option for the tv shows?  I don't feel like having to click on each episode of How I Met Your Mother to get them.

2. Nothing that I actually WANT  to purchase in HD is available in HD outside of rental.  I'm assuming this is some silly measure on Sony's part to ensure people still ahve to go buy Blu-Ray discs if they want to actually own modern HD properties, which is just wrong on their part.

The preview looks interesting and I've been looking for a new anime to watch since Bleach got weird a while back, but there's no video store yet in Canada. To be honest I didn't even know it was available yet.

The rental BS is why I haven't downloaded Xam'd yet, I'm not paying 4 dorras for it to be inactive tomorrow and then I won't be able to have a marathon when all episodes are out. Sony has to get that in check pronto.

Wouldn't it be cool if they made something like a mini disc player for video? Just plug in the RCA cables (or HDMI/Component) and hit record. VCRs don't count.

I rented the HD version as well. Going in, I was set off by the steep price, but by the end I was perfectly fine with having spent the money. I would not purchase it at it's present condition. Not because of any failings on the anime's part, but because of the lack of English dialogue. This is a brand new anime that hasn't even been localized yet, technically. Subtitles is hardly enough. I view the episodes as a preview of the show we shouldn't be getting. It will be a while before this anime hits our shores. Think of it as paying admissions to an early premiere. With that said, I'll probably have to cut down on some of my weekly Rock Band spending because of this. The price is just too much to keep up with otherwise. Now, to my review...

If you, like me, jumped at the opportunity of a High Definition anime; curious to see just how much of a difference there is between Standard Definition, know that this show will leave you with unrealistically high expectations. Colors are sharp, vivid, and blend incredibly well. The levels and tones are astonishing. Clean and smooth. Edges defined. Thin and unbroken (jaggies are a thing of the past). Much like a painting, the show moves incredibly swift and never lets down. The picture holds no matter the amount of visual effects. Truly something to be proud of.

As mentioned before, the episode is presented entirely in English subtitles with Japanese audio the only option. Regardless, the show is unbelievably awesome. Beautiful in its direction and presented by masterful seiyuus. The writing is sharp, witty, and emotional. I was equally impressed by the screenplay as I was by the visuals. The story seems much in the vein of Last Exile with a touch of RahXephon. Truth be told, I would be doing the anime a disservice by treating it as if it was more of the same. The story is wholly unique, and quite immersive. The characters alone make it entertaining to follow. Slightly confusing if you've never seen a sub before, but this will fade. Enchants with each new viewing. I have a feeling this anime will become an instant classic. Amazingly well rounded, and insightfully deep characters. Consider me hooked. I'll be subscribing to the series. So if anybody would like to ask me any questions, I'd be glad to answer.

SPOILER (Highlight at Own Risk): The scene with the girl blowing herself up on the bus and Akiyuki is covered with a mask were very emotionally affecting.

enjoying the series.  Sadly, I got half-way throug episode 3 before having to leave for work.  And when I came back the next day to watch it?  EXPIRED.  sorry Sony, but 24 hours, it turns out, is just not enough.  I missed it by a mere 40 minutes -_-.  I wonder if resetting the system clock somehow will let me watch it.  anyways, no more renting for me; it's ridiculous
