i recently purchased a 500 gig externalhd. i filled it with videos an music. know i plugged it in to my 360 and it diditn recognize it. Does anyone know anything to make it recognize it.

A HDD that big is probably NTFS the x360 only recognize FAT32, you have to reformat the HDD into FAT32 but have no idea how you should do it, google it I guess.

You'll need a special 360.

It's black, shiny, and it says "Playstation 3" in spiderman font on the side

Hmm, I may be crazy but I remember plugging an external in and it was NTFS.

I cant speak for externals but I used my Datel Max Drive which had some music on it once and my 360 read it perfectly.

Fat32 as a size limit so for 500GB a good alternative is to make your HDD into HFS, the Mac drive format.

And then marvel at how you can't do much with it!

NTFS should be read by a 360.... although if it is not, I can hardly say that's surprising. Either way, good luck in your endevors.

PS as a side note, the PS3 cannot read harddrive partitions for some reason. So it's got poor qualities in the way it handles external drives.

so what do i do exactly ... i need deatails? im lost

well i found out its ntfs. and it still wont recognize it. does this prob mean im screwed??...

I think the 360 is only compatible with certain brands of HDs... I know Lacey and Wastern Digital work for sure.

ok the second comment about it being NTFS is CORRECT it does need to be FAT32 otherwise it wont be able to read it.

what you need to do is format it into FAT32 (which means you will loose all data on it) using a piece of software obtained online

at this moment in time (00:40) i dont personally know the software to do so, but a friend of mine actually done this to his external HDD last night so i will ring/ txt him in the morning and get back to you sometime at work :)

so for now if you can just stream your movies from your computer to your Xbox 360 using Windows Media Player 11 it works fine and quality is perfect

so all i have to do is format it to fat32 and it will recognize it.. thats sound easy... maybe to easy. lol ill give it a try tomorrow.

Yeah, I've tried Maxtor FAT32 and NTFS on both PS3s and 360s, and both only read the FAT32 drives. Same went for Seagate and WD.
