ofcourse not ,i just wanted to say that considering the current economic scenario and with the amount of untapped potential of these consoles especially the ps3 (killzone 2,uncharted 2,god of war 3 comes to mind) and motion controls why should there be new consoles?

There will, I just expect the current generation to last alot longer than the norm.

Then what about when the potential has been tapped all the peripherals released? I'm not saying this will be soon, not at all, but it could be anywhere between 2014-18, no-one knows (not even Sony or MS or the big N).

I just don't see your reasoning, I mean would you still wanna be playing the 360 and PS3 in 2020 when high end PC's will push boundaries yet unimagined?

Will happen eventually, but we've got plenty of time.

The ps3 and the 360 have a lot of juice left in them as you said, but don't believe that there will never be a next generation of consoles. As long as humans are alive and willing to be entertained, there will be next generations, because as we all know, technology advances.

Lol of course there will be. As said previously, video games is the largest digital media industry around, much larger than movies. Your right about the ps3 not being tapped, but it's been stated they are trying to have a 10 year life span for it. As for the 360, it has been for the most part tapped. Another two years and the DVD space limitations will be what really affects it first. They will release a née console with upgraded bells and whistles around that point. As for the wii, they will make a better console, they certainly have the money now, but there's no real need as long as wii sales stay strong. And finally, as for the economy, we've already bottomed out. In 2 years, the estimated release of MSs next console, we will all be doing just fine. No need to fear, the video game market might be one of the few to not be severely affected by the economy, it's definitly not going away.

There will always be a next generation console as long as there is a market for it. But I believe that mainly they have the next gen consoles come out because technology is always advancing.Think of it like this people keep buying new computers when the one they already own works fine.  People want the information to happen faster.  This applies to games as well.  People want the graphics to get sharper and better and to have as much stuff happening on the screen smoothly without tearing or lagging.  The gaming industry as well as the consumer have wanted the console to do more as well which pushes the processor to greater lengths.  You need the power in the console to download demos while playing a game or playing online, chatting with friends, or playing a game with voicechat.  There will always be a need for more power as developers and consumers expect more from their systems.

Its 100% sure that there will be a next gen...infact just before the PS3 was released Sony already had the basic designs for the PS4 and the PS5 apparently...I mean if Sony had the capabilities of desiging the PS3 when the Ps1 was out just provides even more evidence...right now gaming companies probably have the equipment and skill of designing consoles which would be up to the standard of say 4 generations away...but in order to market products well they would not simply bring out the best because then they wouldnt be able to make improvements to it and then would be out of buisness...

As long as there is a market. well if they can't make any money, even if there is a market they won't.

Right now the question is not yes or no, what they need is better game designer, be more original in game. At a certain point, you are able to do what ever you want with the hardware, the next question is what to do with it. The next gen will be 1080p games.
