how much do you emphasize about rating in video games?

Are you one of those guys who don't care about rating in video games or not ?
everyone knows that rating is just a label for games sometimes
for example if someone who is 12 years old and but he love Grand Thief Auto , he will play it's forth number with no attention about rating of the game.
here in iran nobody take care about rating........... and nothing had happened for our gamers in iran still
does it impress video gamers or not ? ( i don't know you got this one or not )

how much do you emphasize rating ?

i hope to wrote my sentences correctly----------------------------Bahare ( iranian female name )

Your English is far, far better than any other language I can speak

Anyway, I'm glad to hear you guys don't care about ratings, because they honestly, truly don't matter. Nowadays, the only purpose they seem to serve is "mine is better than yours" type arguments between fanboys. It's quite sad, really.

One more day...

Well, age ratings have always been a joke to me. I never believed in effect of games on children.

I started playing M rated games when I was 6 or 7. From original Mortal Kombat to others, I actually found myself more interested in M for Mature rated games so ever since I became 10 or so, started hunt for every M rated game I could to play it no matter how bad or good they were.
Here I am now, 22 and still looking for and enjoying M rated games.

The age rating is stupid. If someone is crazy and wants to kill people, playing violent games just helps them realize this faster and if someone is a psychopath, they don't become one even if they play Carmageddon, Postal and GTA all their life.

Also, why of all people that played Postal 2, no one tried urinating on people or beheading them with a shovel?

In short, does playing violent game affect children's minds and is virtual killing related to real killings?
As Yahtzee (My mentor ) puts it:
"Short answer NO"
"Long answer NO and go f*** yourselves you ignorant scaremongering c***bags" / "I consider your argument misinformed"

From his "Manhunt" review vid:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/6-Manhunt
Check out it, it's AWESOME (The vid, not the game)!

For me it doesnt bother me. If i have kids, ill be more careful however i probably wont be superstrict. But i would still monitor what they would play. More so about what they see at their age. Like i wouldn't let them play manhunt or gta at the age of ten.

I do think that the age rating can be handy. And more people should use it. In gamestop the other day i saw i believe a 6yr old holding GTA 3 with his parents. Which i just found strange.

It also depends on the kid too. Some kids are just nuts to begin with so anything will make them wild(doesn't have to be videogames), but i think its more about at what age should they see certain things. Like in GTA. However some kids are better than that like MK_Red.

However i know most of those kids wouldn't snap and kill people because thats crazy, or be excessively violent at all or compared to any other form of entertainment. And it is definetly blown out of proportion. Or else we would have WAY many more kids killing people.

Its the parents responsibility for what their kids watch and play. And i think that works alot more because certain kids can handle more violence than others, and are more mature, but some kids aren't.
