CHALLENGE: Build me a FULL $270 PC FROM SCRATCH that can play HITMAN ABSOLUTION

I'm having a debate/argument with someone, and he told me that he has the same buying power as Sony and Microsoft and he can basically build a PC just like and/or equivalent to the PS3 for the same money.

He's having trouble.  


So I'm issuing a challenge to someone here to help.
Build a $270 OUT THE DOOR (not a penny more...not even rebates) PC that has a BluRay, at least a 250GB harddrive.

Has to have everything...case, Legit OS (Windows 7), Keyboard/Mouse.....everything to make it ready to run and play HITMAN ABSOLUTION on at least the minimum specs from STEAM:

System Requirements

• OS: Windows Vista, 7
• Processor: True dual core CPU (Intel, AMD)
• Memory: 2 GB RAM
• Video Card: NV8600 512 Mb RAM, or AMD equivalent

PC gaming is suppose to take commitment, people who build under $500 even $600 defeat the purpose of even owning a gaming PC

$270 isnt going to cut it. Buy it for console. You wouldnt even get a CPU/Motherboard and Case lol. Nevermind the power supply and everything else. Your wasting your time

Use that $270 to buy a GPU and PSU (if necessary), and throw it into your current PC.
Why you'd want a BluRay drive is beyond me, but you can go for that too.

Not, not really.  Remember that PCs have to go above console specs because they're not optimized environments.  Perhaps at $400 we'd be getting there, but I don't you will get it at $270.

Since Windows 7 and a Blu-Ray drive together cost around $140,- already, you'd just have a $130,- left. You're not going to be able to match a Playstation 3 in terms of costs.

To be fair though, Ps3 runs on a Unix kernel, not a Windows kernel. Would lower the costs, but you still wouldn't be able to run Hitman at the same framerate or graphical fidelity as the Playstation 3 can for $200,-. Sorry.

But do you really think all that refurbished stuff will work? Anyway, with those specs it'll be possible to play games like L4D at max settings. I could play that game on a crappy 8600GT card at pretty high settings and the HD 6670 sweeps the floor with it.


You're still missing the monitor and OS though but for the budget that's asking for the impossible.

it does include OS :-) Refurbished stuff will most likely work fine. Ebay rating is great.no need for monitor. connect it to the tv. if he gets rid of the blu ray i bet he can get a monitor. anyways not worth it. get a used ps3. call it a day.

You're still missing the monitor and OS though but for the budget that's asking for the impossible. 

That wouldn't be fair game though, since the Ps3 doesn't come with a screen either.

Perhaps surprisingly, it probably wouldn't. It'll run Hitman on roughly the minimum settings with 30 frames per second, possibly with a higher resolution than Ps3. On the other hand, the frame rate will be less stable, and textures, effects, etc. will be lower than those on Ps3/360, which usually runs the game with mediumish to high settings.

Reason for this is that there's a lot more overhead on PC than there is on PS3, and in this build in particular, the CPU is a bottleneck. Graphics card isn't very impressive either, though about 3x better than the minimum required..

And I really don't see how have a Blu-ray player has anything to do w/ playing Hitman? PC games come on DVD.

It's not about playing Hitman, he wants a BluRay player because he challenged his friend to build a PC that has functionality roughly equivalent to a PS3 for the same price, and one of the PS3's main features is the BluRay drive.

That was actually almost pretty good....

But unfortunately, it's a refurbished base, and thus, must be disqualified.

But I give you personal points for trying to think outside of the box.

These price comparisons never make sense... 

Ok say you buy a 250gb ps3 for $270. You just cant live with that alone, you need a computer to do all your other tasks. So how much did you spend on your non gaming pc? $400?

So when you compare the gaming components as the thing that differentiates a non gaming pc from a gaming pc it would be like the many users that buy a console and a non gaming pc. 

I built my gaming pc for $600-700 2 years ago and it stills runs newly released games on high. 

A proper comparison would be comparing the prices like this:

non gaming pc $200-$400 + ps3 $270

vs 

gaming pc $600-700

A ps3 alone can't do half the tasks a pc can outside of gaming. 

How can you aim for a 270 $ PS3 price point when the case on the new Ps3 is garbage?

Well, seeing as how you can get Absolution for $34 on PC (while it's $60 on consoles), you might as well give yourself an extra $26 towards shipping.

Yeah screw PC's! PC's are overpriced crap. Ps3 is all you need! All the benefits of having a PC are pointless tripe compared to a masterful Ps3 and it's overrated exclusives!

Yeah.. no..  My power supply costs more than you are willing to spend on the entire computer. my graphics card 3 times as much. You can find better computers in people garbage than what you are looking to spend.

\Actually add Windows 8 for $14.99 to that computer that was listed piece by piece above on this page and you just built the pc with operating system. Keyboard and mouse combo for $10 from walmart coupled with the price difference between Hitman Absolution for computer vs for ps3 and Still have room to spare. There is no tax for me as newegg is tax free out of state.

This challenge is skewed. To be fair, you'd have to buy PC hardware that is equivalent to what the Ps3 was 5 years ago.
