Report: SONY ditching Dualshock - Friday, January 18, 2013 4:30 PM
"A senior games studio source working on an upcoming Sony game says the new system's controller has undergone numerous iterations, few of which resemble the DualShock build that has become synonymous with PlayStation. Experiments within Sony's R&D department are thought to have been extensive. Versions of the new PS4 pad include biometric sensors on the grips and an LCD touch screen, the development source claimed."

Thoughts? I think it's about damn time. Ergonomically, it's a terrible controller. I think we're going to see a controller similar to Xbox 360 controller but with a WiiU-like touch screen.

Honestly...I also wouldn't mind something like this:

I dont see it as a big deal either way. Im used to the ps controller and it has honestly never bothered or hurt my hands (nes controller on the other hand...).  I have no problems with them changing it up or adding stuff, as long as it fits well and doesnt feel weird or bothersome. However, i hope they dont go for the thumbstick placement like tje 360. Ive never been a fan of that, and i personally find it uncomfortable. Im prettu much cool with anything as long as its not too crazy, ridiculous

I tried the 360 one while playing Fifa, and couldn't even focus half the time I was playing, DS has always been my fav, if Sony really ditches it in favour of a more gimmicky one, they can kiss my money goodbye.

I think you should give it more time, it's far superior, especially for shooters. It's probably the best thing microsoft has done for gaming.

You obviously never tried Kinect, or Michael Phelps PTL.

I have to disagree with this, I like the 360 controller but for my money the Dualshock is the best controller I ever used.

It all depends on the game for me. For example I like racing games on the 360 because of the triggers, while a shooter that use R1/L1 for shooting/aiming it's the dualshock for me. I'll normally buy a game lik COD for the PS3 and games like Borderlands on the 360.

One is lighter, has bad triggers and is awful for people with big hands. Guess what controller i'm talking about.

Only issue I've had with Dualshock is the PS3 version's L2/R2.
I wish horrible things upon whoever decided to curve them inwards.

Never used the 360's pad. Used the old xbox's a few times, didn't like 'em.
Gamecube's was nice.

I prefer the placement of the thumbsticks on the 360 controller, but god damn does it have a huge dead area, you have to make extreme movements to get anywhere, where as the dualshock 3 has a more precise movement and response. This could be a bad thing though, in intense fps, you can often overshoot your target because of the sensitivity. Also the d-pad on the 360 controller is abysmal, and very responsive on the DS3. Don't even get me started on the RB and LB buttons on the 360, such an awkward and unnatural movement to use those buttons, with the triggers on the DS being almost as bad. A combination of stick placement but DS3 response and sensitivity would be ideal.

I agree with both individual statements. The 360 d-pads were never good, but since the d-pad never got much use it really didn't matter. I got one of the new controllers with the optional raised D-pad which is MUCH better and completely fixes the problem.

I think we will see a controller with a touch screen in it...

I think we will that you can use a vita as a controller as well...  So if you have a vita and buy a ps4 you will be able to use it as a controller right way...

2nd... You will be able to stream games to the vita....

wither it is a ps4 game or psn title... or a demo. it can be streamed from the system to your handheld..

No two hands are the same.  I'm all for new designs, but I'd like to have the DS3 w/a bit more weight for my next gen controller.  I think it might be good if they partnered with various third-parties to provide more options for users with an official PS license/certification tied to them.

I actually came with a design for a controller, after years of research.

It's just like the WII-U pad, exept the whole controller is a touch screen with this technology http://dvice.com/archives...06/video-concept-t.php and you can rearrange the buttons to your liking.

I hope all next gen consoles have weird motion controllers or touch screens so I can just completely ignore them.

It was made for small Asian hands. Just like the Duke Xbox controller was made for people with gigantism disorder.

I'm able to rather comfortably use the Duke and the DualShock. Though going back to the Duke after some years with the PS3 isn't a good feeling

Mind you I went from the N64 to the Xbox, and we all know how weird that three-pronged thing was

I guess that's cool.  If you like a higher amount of latency.

It is sort of cool, but when you ponder it for about a minute or so, you begin to realize that it is actually uncool and an utterly useless idea. Imagine if you have a buggy app, I wonder what is going to happen to that screen.

But if this is more than just a Rumor and Sony is indeed changing The DualShock, then i guess i'll have to buy a 3rd Party controller come Next-Gen.

The 360 controller fills my hands nicely and the triggers/joysticks feel great. However, I find the DS3 pretty comfortable like it is now, but if they decide to update, it would be nice if they put some more weight to it and if they make the joysticks/triggers tighter.

I think that square button on the left controller is slightly tilted and if you don't fix it kon's getting punched again.
