Playstation 2 Store

I was speaking to a friend last night on MSN who works at Sony London. I was actually asking him about the new XMB update, and if he knows when it'll be out. He told me it was scheduled to launch E3, but more interesting was his info on a new Playstation 2 Store that'll also be announced at E3 too! Basically Sonys answer to Xbox Originals. He even sent me a pic, ive uploaded it here:



Apparently, it wont be released during E3, but is scheduled for a late summer release. Most surprising is that its supposedly launching in Europe first! Guess Sony has realised how valuable us Europeans are to them!

Awesome. Nice find. I see Red faction, MGS2, Fantavision, Smuggler's Run and SSX. Can anyone make out the rest?

Edit: The car game's probably GT3, but what's on the bottom? A Castlevania game maybe?

Yes indeed this is an Awesome find, and it suprises me that this did happen a lot sooner, it makes such good sense to offer PS2 games for download on the PSN store....

there are so many PS2 games I would love to play on my PS3, and if you could download them and just have them on the hard drive.... Priceless...

Yeah I feel the same it would be possible to add it to the 40GB models and surely for it to run on them they would have to give it software BC just like they have with PS1...I wish they would as I have never played MGS3 and just managed to get a copy of subsistence real cheap so had to buy it, don't wanna have to pick a PS2 just for that.Althought guess they could emulate games on an individual basis.

the 80GB is software based, i don't see why they couldn't add it to the 40GB

80gb is still partly hardware based... small chips here and there

40gb would require full on software emulation- and that's a tiny bit tricky, will be here somewhere down the line for sure though

Well if Microsoft could emulate the Xbox without the almight power of the CELL surely Sony couldnt have any trouble doing the PS2? I mean PS2 emulation is starting to get pretty decent on PC right now anyway so I dont see that its impossible if Sony did put some money on it

It is indeed impossible. This is fake.

I can't remember the EXACT technical speak, I just know it's related to the fill rate or something being specific in the hardware of the PS2.

i wouldn't say it's impossible. there are PC emulators that do a decent job. but to have it fully working like a PS2 will be the challenge.

Fake or not, I'm still hopeful.  There are a ton of games that I haven't played yet that I'd love to see here.  The unfortunate side is the fact that PS1 games are so very slowly getting released to PSN that getting PS2 games there would seem unlikely.
