The Official Motorstorm 2 Appreciation Thread

My friend and PSN mate Whooop did an excellent job with the original "First impressions of Motorstorm 2" thread.  I want to take this a step further since Sony has seen fit not to properly advertise this wonderful, wonderful game.  The pics speak a thousand words as the cliche goes, but I can tell you on a personal level, and as someone who played Motorstorm 1 until the "label rubbed off", this is one hell of a game.  The a.i. is savage and the environs are nothing short of magnificent.  Motorstorm 2 : Pacific Rift is simply a masterpiece in my very humble opinion.  Enjoy and please feel free to add your own opinions and race pics.  I am currently halfway through level 8 and looking to close out the campaign with all gold medals in each and every race.  Motorstorm 2 is a and will be a Greatest Hit.

Some people will look at the meat of this statement and scoff it off as fanboy hyperbole.  I can safely say that I've had 360 owners come into my home as late as yesterday and after playing PR, tell me "they've played nothing like it".  I don't need this type of re-affirmation, but I can tell you whether I played another game like it or not...it simply stands alone -- the crashes and physics associated with them are unbelievable.

Sometimes in the hectic world of forum-life one can overlook minor, but important details like not adding harry 190 to the PSN friends list.  This detail has been corrected henceforth.

I will put the time in.  I don't even think I ever got first place in a race.  It was that ridiculous for me.

I will get this game as soon as I can afford it or I find it for about 30$. Which ever comes first. Been waiting for it since it was announced.

The first edition was terrific.  It was one of the first games I owned on the PS3 and I played it religiously.  I am a Gran Turismo freak, so this game filled somewhat of a void in the competitive racing games for me back then, especially with the online functionality where I earned "God" rank.  But, what made the game so engaging was the intelligence of the computer cars in the sp modes - sometimes more vengeful than human counterparts.   

It seems that Evolution has taken this core belief in that the "campaign makes you better" to another degree.  Those crazy bastards have engineered some wicked, wicked a.i. in PR and the "revenge" and "assassin" cars will have you swearing at your television and waking the neighbors.  This is truly one of England's finest.  Bravo, Evolution, bravo.

I am also a Gran Turismo Fanatic. I got and loved Burnout Paradise and I will enjoy Motorstorm2 until my baby is released sometime in the near future i hope.

Yeah...I like Burnout:Paradise as well and this game has a Burnout "feel" presentation wise, but of course, is on a whole other level when it comes to the racing & physics.  Duh....you say...it's on rock, dirt and mud!

Yeah I went wild and bought about 7 games about two weeks ago (includes all the episodes of Siren from the PSN and Hail to the Chimp..lol).  Can't wait to see you on the track.

Loved MS1 will be picking this 1 up for sure early 2009 sometime.

Might be picking this game up soon, either that or Resistance 2 but I'm busy with Gears of War 2 and LBP at this moment.

I wonder if the bigger cars are competitive online. This is my main complaint about burnout, it's too difficult to crash all these F1's with my thunder custom. I like steady and fast cars to rumble opponents

By bigger cars, if you mean monster trucks, monster cars and big rigs, then yes....they are competitive online.  Just as in M1, keep a steady and precise line and use your heavy weight to fend off defenders and you've got as good a chance (if not better) than motorcycles and rally cars.  The balancing in the game is terrific in that all of the water elements have their purpose, i.e., deeper water will slow down the smaller vehicles & is more difficult to go through with anything other than a monster truck, big rig, or racing truck, but even a little water that splashes the undercarriage will cool down your engine (no matter what vehicle you're in) so you get get a little extra boost with the cool down.

Going back to an earlier point, it just blows my mind that SCE won't advertise this game a bit more...it just doesn't make sense.  Wonder what Evolution thinks about that?  :sigh:

I am a motorstormer from the first day the original came out and all who have played it know my name as i was one of the top drivers on motorstorm 1. Then came motorstorm 2 and damn it im hooked that much more! I have already completed the festival and have all the trophies but 4 and those are won by playing online and so off to work i go to complete it..I have already made it to level three and going strong. My first weeks of it I spent playing nothing but time trials and my name is posted on all tracks in the top of the leader boards. Vicrad is going strong online and he is the one to beat at this point.... this game is so  much different than the first,in the first edition you won by your skill of speed on this one you have to fight your way to the front and part of me doesnt like that but the graphics are so great i cant help but go with the flow...I just wish they intergrated the monster trucks in a manner they wernt the strongest on the online track...for those who are trying to beat the festival...good luck because there are a few tickets that will seem impossible to beat but I wouldnt take a defeat and persisted to get the gold...I am behind online but I wanted to spend the first few weeks learning so the online experience wasnt so intimidating  besides it just gives me a reason to push my abilities of driving online when im behind on stats..to those of you that already who know me, see you on the tracks and those of you who dont....you will know me cuz ill be the one in the monster truck running you over under the name of logontree
