Guess what? PS3 Slim is real.

Ok guys, I'm getting bored of all the "rumours" and "debates" about the PS3 slim. Many people don't believe it is real, but I can confirm that it definitely IS real, however it hasn't been finished yet.
Now I know what you're thinking - 1 post wonder, right? But I do have to protect my identity. Proxies, alternate emails, you name it, I am particularly paranoid about being found out because I could lose my job over it. However, I can at least prove my credibility somewhat - PS3 Firmware 2.8. Its being released on June 24th, that's next Wednesday.

So far, as far as I can tell, nobody has leaked anything about 2.8, including when it will be out. And for good reason, it doesn't contain any exciting new features, but don't be disappointed, more is due to come down the line.

So, at this point not a single one of you should put any credibility into this post. None at all. But next Wednesday if my "prediction" is correct, what then?

in fact, Microsoft may even be working on a slim 360, we don't know that.

The next iteration will be a slim ps3, then it will be a ps4. Wait..Maybe not a ps4, I read something a long time ago in the Times saying Sony was not going to be releasing a 4th console. (Could have just been some gay propoganda or somehting)

Looks are not finished yet, but expect it to look something like that PS3 slim box art that's floating around (which is either fake or only a "test" box, as I said the design isn't finished yet).
It'll be disappointing for some very specific reasons that the vast majority of people wont ever notice. Essentially, just about every non-essential component has been removed - like the switch on the back. And OtherOS support is gone as well, so no more cheap supercomputers, which as I said most people wont care about. But clearly Sony is trying to save every single penny they can, which presumably will go towards that price cut Activision want so badly. That last bit is my own personal speculation, though.

"tipsters" have dissapointed me many-a-time in the past, but you "sound" legit.. then again, other "tipsters" have "sounded" legit and weren't

so I'll just wait till Wednesday and hope that your not lying about FM 3.0  ;D.. can we expect it this year?

It'll still do 99% of the stuff the PS3s can do now. So your blu-rays will work, your media playback will work, etc.
To call it "gimped" is going way too far, it's more...refined? In fact, apart from the removal of OtherOS support and a few changes on the hardware level, it's more or less the same machine. Not really any different to Sony removing the various AV ports the old PS1s and PS2s had and didn't need.

But "new" features that some people might expect, like Backwards Compatibility with PS2 games and such, isn't going to happen with this model. I can't say if that'll happen in future or not, but I wouldn't hold my breath. You're not even going to get any more USB ports.
