Dude the best thing you can ask yourself is if you know anyone irl that has xbox live.
Theres nothing more fun than playing online games with real life friends and family.

i know over 11 people with LIve lol, thats one of the big reasons im getting a 360, so i can play with all my friends (i only know 2 people with ps3s, so its kinda boring playing online)

Yea Exactly I got like 7 people I know irl on live 3 of them my family and 4 friends. That list is continueing to grow because we influence other people we know to also buy and xbox and jump on live. Your going to have a great time once you get on live Good luck :P

You serious? Not to start any flame bait but i honestly cannot recommend a 360 to friends of family with the current hardware issues. I always used to recommend 360's over ps3's to friends because even if i was a ps3 fan in my mind i felt the ps3 was going to fail. I also had a 360 so i would tell all the people who asked me not to go for ps3 but to go for 360. If they didn't want 360 i would tell them to stick to ps2 and wait and see. (I can't lie to my friends wouldn't be very friendly of me). But now where RROD pops up everywhere i honestly can't. I wouldn't go as far as stopping a friend who wants a 360 because 360 has great games however i would have to give a stern warning telling them their console will more than likely die. If they are fine with that then i am cool because i know i have played my part as a friend.

Buy the 360 Elite
Don't buy the Air Cooler acc.
I recommend not playing for more than 6 - 8 hours at a time
Keep it in a clean open area where air can pass freely
Don't use it as a DVD player
Buy the store warranty

And You should be fine

My experience with the Xbox 360 has been one of a single RROD and I had it fixed independently and I was just playing on it today...
That was my launch console that never hiccuped for 2 years

While that one was being repaired I bought an Elite and that one is still running  perfectly as well

Rest Easy if your 360 does have a hardware failure you are covered by the warranty and its not as much of a Horrendous situation that its made out to be in the media. Yeah its time away from gaming ...
But you said you have a ps3 right... well there you go you can play that untill it returns. Or you could go outside?

Enjoy Your Gaming.

Aside from the main argument, that's another big reason I don't have a PS3. I have....8 friends with Xbox 360's. I do not have a single friend who owns a PS3. I know a guy at work does, and my cousin has both...but I really wouldn't have anyone to play with online.

I also know 3 guys from a small town outside of Albany,NY. Never met them, but we've been playing together for about a year (I play with these guys a lot more than I do with my friends online). I imagine this kind of relationship would be difficult to have on PSN.

The funny thing is from all the people I know in real life my friend and I are the only ones to have suffered a RROD. Everyone else has had a problem free system and some of theese people play for 14 hours at a time. I usually play for 2 or 4 hours at a time then I get motion sickness has always been this way with me even in snes days.

Yea i agree 100% on the friends thing. I have friends way back from high school and ps3 is pretty much the only way we communicate lol. Some aren't even in the US anymore

Elites and premiums are prone to failure.  Your best bet is to ensure that you have an extended warranty placed on your 360 in case it dies out prematurely.

This is the correct answer.

Just be safe and cautious and protect yourself.

Anyone thinking of buying a 360 should save their money. The console is poorly made. We all know that. Don't believe the "Give it air" , "Give to room to breathe". BS.

Also don't believe that MS is ever going to fix the RRoD issue. They are already making their next console by now. MS will just keep fixing 360's until the warranties run out.

If I had a free, broken 360, I would use it as a toilet on the go.

I still haven't experienced the RRoD since launch, and I don't know anyone IRL who has.
Optimism! ;p

I hope that doesn't jinx it.

My easy suggestion: If the 360 has games you want to play, and you have the money, go for it. Look after it and you'll be ok. Same with any device really.

I bought a fan....didn't work...don't need it anyway. I had my console for over a year now. Nothing wrong with it.  Works great.

I was at Future Shop (Canadian version of Best Buy) about a month ago and there was a customer inquiring about buying a 360, the sales associate was telling the costomer to get the extended store warranty so they will have no problems. It was funny to see the warranty right in the sales pitch.

True that stores try this all the time but when it was offered on my PS3, I declined. The sales associate admitted that they only got two back total for repair.

I've heard bad things about the external cooler systems, for either console, you should probably avoid them.

I to was once a victim of RROD! It was Dead Rising that did me in(Drools all over self at the mention of DEAD RISING). So here some tips. DO NOT BUY A FAN that draws power from machine. Check when it was born. Keep it out of entertainment centers or tight spaces where it cant sweat. Above all else pray to the gaming Gods!
