I look at Prolouge as like the first year of madden on the NEXT-gen consoles. You know its gunna be a strip down version of the game without its bells and wistles but it still containes its gameplay and structure. And with that knowledge people still go out and buy the NEW MADDEN that costs $60 and the only reason is because of its graphics. This will be the first GT "Released" for the PS3 so I don't see the difference in this and what happens with madden.

If Prologue was released under the name of GT5 he would buy it, but since he looks into an unforeseeable future with this title refuses to buy into it just because it's a preview of what's to come.  And he calls himself a GT fan

That's not true, and I thought I had clarified that on the show.  If they released a game with the same graphics as Prologue has now...but added a full selection of cars, tracks, modes, damage modeling, and new features and physics...I would buy it now.  But in that case it WOULD be GT5.  The very fact that they are calling this game a PROLOGUE means that very little in terms of real progressive change will take place between GT5P and GT5, regardless of when they release the final version.

This is not the full game...regardless of it's admitted wealth of content...and I don't think it's right to charge your customer's more than half full retail price for what is essentially a beta test of your final product.  That's my opinion on GT5P, and it probably will not change.

I agree...and yet many of the same people that complain about Madden's price and progression are defending Prologue.

The bottom line of all this is that this is MY opinion on Prologue.  I don't begrudge anyone who wants to go buy it because I understand the attraction....but I will not.

Edit: Boogeyman you picked the opportune time to throw this back out there...lol....I think everybody's probably lucky we won't be talking about it on the pod again this week....considering we took up like half the show...

I think the considering this a demo or a beta is probably the biggest misconception. I don't think anyone can find a demo or a beta the compares to GT5P

Definately not a beta because we're not testing for bugs, and the delays have been to iron out bugs before sending to retail.

Definately not a demo because the only racing demos I've played have a time limit, one track, one car ect.

Now GT5P doesn't offer the amount of content that past GT games have offered so it makes it seem like a small part of the actual game, but no other GT has offered this much detail either.

I think the issue comes in when people throw around demo or beta, since most of these current gen $60 games have at most like Mass Effect 40-80 hours of gameplay, lack a stable framerate, suffer from pop-in and hideous load times without having online play. So if you take the 100 hours of gameplay that GT5P offers and add the online play 60FPS and 1080p visuals for those that have it with splitcreen offline play, it sounds like you're stuck on the name and haven't looked at the value. That's your right and I can respect that it's cool, I think you'll be missing out though.

Also I pick on Mass Effect a lot because  it gets praised so much and the first time I got to see it running at my friends house it wasn't up to the standards of what I would expect from an exclusive 2nd gen title for a next gen console.

I'm not hung up on the name, I'm hung up on the concept.  I know it has a lot of content, so does Madden in the example above...but I disagree with the concept because the full version will not be that different.   Like i said above though, that's just my opinion on the situation....

And you criticize Mass Effect because you didn't play it.  If you had, you would realize that in terms of gameplay and graphical fidelity it is certainly up to par with next gen titles on any system.  It has some framerate issues and pop-in, but in my 28 hours of experience with the title I've found most of the criticism to be blown a bit out of proportion.  The loading times are excessive, though.  However Mass Effect has nothing to do with my opinion on this situation, and seems to be nothing more than a cheap shot thrown in your comment so you could get a dig in on a 360 game.

I'm not trying to dig a 360 it's a $60 dollar game that is comparable in terms of content 100 hours of gameplay but I'm saying that GT5 has more polish. I pick ME because the amount of praise that game has been given and the issues it had for a full priced game and you and some can look at GT5 and nit pick in my opinion seems funny.

I could use any game from last year the majority of Single player games had a campaign that last 12 hours or less with the exception of ME so it's a good example. I'll take Uncharted if you want and it's only a 10 - 12 hour game and it's $60 bucks and doesn't have online.

I played uncharted, but I try use the games that are constantly raved about by the individual I'm talking with so it seemed appropriate, so let's use Uncharted and it's a PS3 game so no worry about the 360 there.

ok then use uncharted...but if you have not played the game in full, yourself then I would just ask (any person who posts, not just you) to put a more open opinion on the game. I have not played Mass Effect but I cannot denie that alot of people Loved the game and didnt have the excesive problems that you pointed out.

I'm not nitpicking GT5P though....In fact my point has absolutely nothing to do with the content of GT5P compared to other games, it has to do with GT5P compared to GT5.

Anyway, I think I'm done with the GT5 conversation for now....I feel like I'm running my point around in circles for no reason and wasting valuable forum real estate.  The points on both sides have value, so I think we'll all have to agree to disagree on this one.

That's awesome! Of course I know you are just passing the good word along...but to all who don't know... VSYNC is a great thing...IF THE DEVELOPERS ARE BRIGHT ENOUGHT TO ENABLE IT!  It's typically due bad programing and PC developers just don't care because they will release half assed finished versions as they know they can just patch it if the game actually sells.

FTW! (and PC games)  there's a reason why WOW is keeping the industry alive ya know.

Hell I'll admit...I'm not a PC gamer...haven't been in years. I've had no reason to as I don't play MMO's and besides MODS, I can't see playing FPS or action games on them anymore when they come out with quality that is now up to speed with PCs (unless you are willing to pay out the ass for an awesome unit) on a console without the headache of installing, patching, system req, etc.  For the handful of you who are still clinging on good luck.  I'm not going to get into a debate with you about PC do's and do not's as there is no real point in the end.  It is true you can make incredible games on PC's (once again if you have the system that kicks ass for a price), but honestly who buys them?  Besides WOW, when is the last time you saw a PC game take top dollar in sales?  Anyhoo, I lose...you win...whatever.  I'll stick to my "mediocre" PS3 and Xbox 360 and deal with multiple great games a month instead of hoping something special gets released on PC.

cheers
Boogey
