Guaranteed to sell millions, and get a new camp of gamer on that console's "ship." Generally this refers to exclusives.

I don't see R2 doing this. Only for current PS3 owners.

Follow the link to the Konami ID page, register, and choose a KONAMI ID and GAME ID, your GAME ID is probably what's used for MGO.

@timmy: I'm aware. I just won't call that a guarantee, at all, based on R1.

What else is R2 competing with this year(online specifically)?

It doesn't have to compete with anything. MGS4 and GTAIV both have multiplayer components and will garner far more attention.

R2 will not be a "flagship" title even if it is one of the better online games for the PS3 this year.

People won't be buying PS3s thinking "OMFG R2!"

Maybe 12.

Isn't that exactly what resistance is going to do? If resistance isn't what is?

Hell no! Resistance is not a flagship title. Why is this being argued? Flagship titles are generally from solid background series, the first Resistance was a great launch title, that's it.

The second one could be one of the best MP games, but it's not a flagship title by any means.

In saying so, you're basically saying the sales of the game will be comparable to a real flagship title like MGS. Just because its online is great doesn't mean it's an "online flagship," it's either a flagship title, or it isn't, genre doesn't matter.

I just don't see people staying dedicated to GTA online, MGO a little bit more but not really.

Yea i agree. We just will have to see if the campaigns are good for its genre. MGS singleplayer will be awesome and online seems to be what you can expect from a online MGS game.

Yeah. R2 will probably have a great MP. KZ2 could too. I'll look into that.

Point is, neither are quite definable as flagship when you look at the onslaught of new PS3 owners and what they will be buying the system for.

@Juno: and, you'd be dead wrong. Learn from your brother.

So i think I'm right in assuming can you just wait for the beta download to do the sign up in game? I'm gonna try to preorder collector's edition this weekend. Hopefully they still have the dvd.

Konami ID signup can be done in game.

The beta DVDs are probably low in quantity. Your best bet is finding a code online.

I have the LE preordered. I knew I would do so before it was even announced.

well, the way i see it is your defining a flagship title as system seller but most mgs fans already have a ps3 because it's a hardcore game. This same thing applys to resistance 2.

Wow. I don't see how it's possible to even think that - LOL.

I'm assuming you've no idea of the amount of people waiting for MGS4's release before buying it simultaneously with a system. This will not happen with R2.

You're either seriously crazy about Resistance, or misunderstanding my basic definition of a flagship title.

People will buy MGS4 with their PS3s. This will not happen anywhere near the extent with R2. For that to be true, people outside of the PS3 world would care far more about R2.

I got denied from the konami registration (story on front page) so I'm just gonna go to the store and test my luck. Last time i was there they really didn't know about it and they checked and said they had it in stock so I can naturally assume they don't really notify customers about it.

Since my opinion is alrways right because I was inherently born a God. Let's start with some things:

1. This is "F*CKING" stupid. Honestly, if this is only for the beta, I'm fine with it. THey're using their own system to gather research data, statistics, feedback, whatever. If I have to see this crap in the official retail. NO SALE. This game's online isn't nearly a quarter good enough to jump hoops for. I'm interested in Metal Gear because I need to finish the story I started about 15 years ago when I got MG on the NES back in a time when I didn't even live on this continent. I speak only for myself (and anyone who can agree with me) when I say that this is not a way to attract a western audience. This is just bloody stupid.

Like I said. If the official retail uses PSN ID's and everything is nice and integrated, I don't have a problem with it.

2. Resistance 2 is a flagship online title because it'll showcase the breadth of the PlayStation Network unlike any game before it. End of story. People lining up to buy a game has nothing to do with how good the game is. Marketing does that. There's no arguing this, you can't make a counter-point. You won't change my mind so don't even attempt it.

3.......I usually don't agree with Suko. But he's right. This is an embarassement. Sony is letting a third party mess with them and their system. Maybe Konami has them by the balls with MGS4's exclusivity? who knows.

It doesn't matter what it shows necessarily. The amount of sales it will garner for the PS3 pale heavily in comparison to real flagship titles. That is my only point and it would be very irrational to argue against - unless anyone believes it can par up with a real flagship title like MGS4.

I don't care if I can't change your point, but I'll say this. You clearly look at it differently. I don't think it will sell PS3s, and I don't believe in genre specific flagship titles, which means we cannot really argue this with each other. For me, it's a flagship or it isn't, it's not "this type" flagship or "that type" flagship, including online play.

Again, judging by your response, your idea of a "flagship title" is nothing like mine. It is all to do with sales of the console in my definition.

What ultimately doesn't matter is that Sony is still putting enormous resources behind this game, just like they are Killzone 2. In that aspect, Killzone 2 is also a flagship title. Any game can sell gangbusters if there's enough marketing hype around it. Assassin's Creed didn't sell that many copies (Something like 4 million units?) Because it was onnovating or doing anything correctly, people just thought the commercials looked "Effing awesome".

I'm not arguing the quality.

Look back at my personal definition of the word. These games will not sell PS3s as MGS4 will - and I would hardly call AC a flagship, unless people in masses bought their 360s and PS3s for it. Halo is a flagship title, for sure.

Sales of the game are somewhat relevant, sales of the console is what I'm getting at however, and quality I'm not looking at for this term specifically.
