Halo 1 was great. that's where it ended. it was the game that actually got me into fps games. it was a great game. but then CoD4 took over (for me)

i didn't know there was a gears 2 trailer until my friend told me. so i googled it. it looks very very good. but when watching the comparing one with gears 1 there really is not much of an improvement. not that there needed to be since gears 1 set a very high bar for graphics. it looks a bit better but only a bit. nothing huge, and if epic in 2 years can manage to only slightly improve it graphically, then other devs have no chance. none have even got to gears 1 level yet.

the entire level was on rails and so you can't really tell such things as draw distance. the multiple enemies weren't even enemies you actually fought with. more like a staged back drop that you could shoot at. there's more color which is a good thing. i'd like to see a level with 100's of A.I controlled enemies that you have to fight and a level not on rails to decide if the improvement was big or small, though.

gears 2 looks great though so i'll be getting it whenever i get a 360

Halo 1 is the best out of all the Halo games. Right now, Call of Duty 4 is a freight train that cant be stopped.

ya cause we all know games fundmentaly change with every single sequal, Mario, God of War, Zelda, Halo, Resistance.

You don't have to change the way a game is to make it better, halo 2 had online MP, Halo 3 had 4 player Online co-op, Forge, Theater.

I get the if it's not broken don't fix mentality and it works really well for Bungie cuz that what their fanbase want.

It seem to me like they just followed the same checklist for the 3 games.

beach level
snow level
tank level
warthog level
betrayal
flying level
go in enemy ship
tell in story in a way that's engrossing o

edit- there is supposed to be check mark beside every item (except the last one) but they just don't wanna show.

The story is told subtly through several background elements. Things like architecture, general understanding of the universe and hints in the dialog of the NPC's you don't typically hear or care about (In particular, the Index) are enough to tell the story of the Halo universe, and the events of the Master Chief.

Let's be honest here, the only reason Gears 2 won Game of the Year was because it was the only game out that mattered for the Xbox 360, and the system had the largest INSTALL BASE. As we all know, Game of the Year is usually a game with a LARGE install base, this doesn't mean I think R1 should have been GoTY.. but God of War 2 should have DEFINETLY won.

Gears 2 looks in par with Gears 1 in terms of graphics, we still don't know much about the game play.. if it has changed much or not. But what I would really like to know, is if the linear game play mechanic has changed.. or well you still have to fight in small corridors once more.

Only problem I saw with Gears 2, is that the "epicness" seemed to serve as an impressive backdrop for the action, and not much more. For instance, the locusts running on the ground while you're in the craft, basically seem like scenery that you can shoot at, if you get what I mean. There's still about 3-5 locusts per encounter, which leaves a lot to be desired. Still, looks to be a great game.

I don't think that there is going to be much compitition between the two. People with a 360 will buy gears and people with a ps3 will buy R2.

resistance2 has 8 player online coop, 2 campaigns, and 60 player online squad based multiplayer.... Gears2 has 1 8 hour campaign and 5v5 multiplayer...which game is better? hmm....
