Back on topic, I really think it's unlikely that a Gears game will be coming to the PS3. I'm not even sure the 360 will still be around by the time Gears 3 releases, so the franchise may have moved on to the next gen by that time.

. It is taking them 2 years to make Gears 2, so Gears 3 could come in 2010. I would think the 360 is still alive at that time.

I know, it's highly unlikely the 360'll die by then, I was just putting forward a posibility, I just didn't want to repeat what everyone else has said, but still wanted to contribute to the discussion

Is it really a 7 year life cycle? I didn't think the 360 was really built to last that long (not talking about hardware).

xbox 360 games are derivative of PC games, even if they might be released on xbox 360 first, but eventually all release on PC format. Why would u play on a half-assed 720p xbox version when you can play on PC at 1920x1200 res? THat's why owning 360 is waste of time, at least for me that can afford a decent, modern PC rig that able to see most games at its full glory.

Yep, rather than spending about £280 on a console, you can spend £1000 [edited] and play those games of equivalent quality on the PC! Sounds good!!!

From what I've understood, MS has a publishing rights contract for GOW for 2 games. After that, it expires.

Journalists for a long while have stated the idea that GOW3 would probably go multi-plat, obviously though, MS would put up enough money to keep one of their most important franchises.

So in all likelyhood, regardless of the 2 game contract, no, MS would not let that game get away. However, Epic could look at it by that time and say "hey, both the 360 and PS3 are both successful now (if part 3 were to come out in time before next gen systems) and in fact, we pretty much know the PS3 has surpassed, or is going to surpass the 360 install base. If MS can NOT meet Epic's price, and Epic realizes, hmm both systems have a big install base at this point and the PS3s is in fact, bigger.

Simply put, if Epic felt MS's offer + sales wouldn't equal the gross they would get from having it be a multi-plat hit, then they might not sell, and it comes out on PS3 as well. That's really the only chance for that to happen. Or, Sony gets in a bidding war with them, which might be unlikely as they tend to not do that, then again, things can change by that time.

I think Sony will have had several GOW sales type of hit games by the time GOW3 were to come out, so trying to get that game would become irrelevant.

Considering that it has never actually been explained we have no idea how the deal works, I have heard the 2 game thing, I've also read that MS owns the Gears IP, but not the universe thing, I've also heard MS made sure Gears would never be on a non MS platform.

It is considered a first party game and not a third party exclusive.

take 2 want sony give 200 to 300 million dollars to secure GTA Iv as a exclusive reason it was that cause of alot install base on ps3 but sony didn't pay it

Epic most ask for alot of cash for MS to make the IP exclusive but didn't feel at the time was a good investment but you know they proably going to try get a new contract set up as we speak

theses dev companys are getting big bucks
