It'll be something innovative - mirrors edge, spore, fable 2, or fallout 3  come to mind.

What facts are known about Fallout 3?
It's a first person RPG in a post-apo. world... anything else?

i think what its doing is taking what halo 3 did with forge and expanding it.

Sure its got more depth than forge; but halo did do it first - albeit to a lesser extent

sure thing.

spore - surely I dont need to go into this? Dynamic , emergent gameplay like nothing before

mirrors edge - first person platforming has NEVER been done before (first person action was done in breakdown, but that was in no way a platforming game) The art style and main character are pretty refreshing too.

fable 2 - emergent gameplay, one button combat, real moral dillemas, persistant drop in drop out co-op in an RPG,

fallout 3 - turn based combat system from a first person perspective, hundreds of endings, unique and innovative tutorial mission and opening cutscene

Now let's talk disappointments of the year apart from MK vs. DC, which we all know belongs on the first place.

lol, so true and sad

Disappointments:
1. MK vs DC Universe
2. Soul Calibur 4 (I want boobies back. Damn the censorship)
3. Silen Hill 5 (Homecoming)
4. Far Cry 2 (Even though I love the game and pray that doesn't happen)
5. Red Alert 3 (The gameplay and trailer looked more like EA's stupid Generals than the WestWood's original classics)

Haze and Tiberuim are other candidates but almost nobody is expecting Haze to be great and Tiberuim just looked horrible and unless EA changes the whole thing, it won't even come close to Renegade.

What facts are known about Fallout 3?

What JHFKDFNFGJKFHDKF said though:

1. It's not really turn based. It's an innovative mix of bullet time (Though more time-stoppish), turn-based and real time combat. Plus, the camera is free and not only can be either of 1st or 3rd person but in 3rd, it can go so far that the game may look isometric.

2. The game uses an uber bloody and superb death system that is directly inspired by Burnout's slo-mo take downs. Imagine blowing a rival car into pieces and watching the Take Down in slow motion. In Fallout 3, parts of someone's body with lots of blood are shown in slo-mo in cinematic angles.

3. Along with the great and unique opening, the ending is also a customizable cut-scene that is fully based on what you've done during the game.

4. You start the game as an infant coming out of mother's womb! and play your regular life for sometime and even have birth days! till you are old enough.

5. The world will be completely dynamic and you can destroy a whole town and all of it's people and quests will be gone.

6. Finally, there is a whole radioactive element that goes beyond any other games. Player will be forced to drink form toilet's water and do anything to survive but radiation may affect all stats and powers.

7. Handheld Nuke! This weapon is wrong and stupid from a Fallout-ish point of view and shouldn't have been in the game but still, having a nuclear launcher in your hand is something that is pretty awesome.

Also, there are returning features that no game but Fallout itself has ever used:
1) S.P.E.C.I.A.L:
A character developement and customization based on Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck and each of them have their completely unique and special effect in game though I hope Bethesda can follow the originals or at least get close to it..

2) Dog:
Ages before Molynex and his team talked about their revolutionary "Dog" feature, original Fallout had Dogmeat and poor animal had a really tragic story.

3) Controversial story
Vaults were created to experiment on people and not to protect them from nuclear war. Each vault has a unique situation. One has only one male and 199 females. The other is the exact opposite. 1 female and 199 males ().
A vault with only one water source (Waterchip) and another will ships of them! (Though this one was partially a mistake of goverment).

first: don't get me wrong, those games are worth the GotY nominations, but here we go:

emergent gameplay - too many RPG's are emerging - oblivion, myst are some for example

evolution, birth, marraige, offspring - an extent of tamagatchi

drop in drop out co-op in an RPG - Final Fantasy IX did that

hundreds of endings - there's too many games to list that had more than ONE ending (now isn't this an EXTENT of something?)

first person platforming - another extent of being able to jump in an fps game

that's all from the top of my head and i'm not going to waste time finding other games

this is for your argument with LBP

Thanks for the quick info on Fallout 3, JHF-somethinglong and MK.
Gore... looks like it's a game I'm going to enjoy after I puke all over MK vs. DC :p
Oh, and by the way... Dead Space seems to be kinda innovating with dismembering the aliens in order to kill them properly.

I think Final Fantasy: Crisis Core should be nominated for Role-Playing GOTY, some could argue that it's the best RPG so far this year.

This thread was made for serious discussions about games that will win awards this yr. We are not going to be talking about overall game of the yr on games we haven't played to reduce unnecessary fanboy nonsense.

Try not to troll this thread like you do the others.

@mk_red, i don't think we should do disappointed games thread because it will cause fanboy nonsense. If we were to do a list of disappointing games, it will have to be on games that are already out or at least have a demo

Don't mention it
Yeah, with the *********** T rated MK vs DC, we can have gory blast with Fallout 3 and unique gory kills
Dead Space looks promising but reminds me too much BioShock and System Shock.

I see, sorry for my post. I just wanted to follow that suggestion but you definitly have a point (Though MK vs DC is going to suck no matter what  unleass they make it M and bring back the fatalities which team as confirmed that won't happen due to idiots at DC)

No fatalities in MK isn't MK. They better have another title planned. Taking out fatalities to include DC characters simply isn't worth it.

Anyway i have added Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures to the list of computer game of the yr and mmo game of the yr. It just released and the buzz behind it seems pretty strong.
