Same thing has been hapening here too. I was letting the system run, but in the last week we had 4 power outages. My guess is the mid 90s weather here is stressing somethng and our power keeps going out. One of those times I had about 30 mins left on a WU and when I got my power back, I lost all of it. Majorly sucked. So I'll probably start again in a week.

I am personally against Folding@Home.  Curing all these diseases will simply increase the already huge human population.  6.6 billion increasing by 2.5 per second (births worldwide minus deaths per second = +2.5).  We have gone from 2.5 billion in 1953 to 6.6 today.

More humans = more food and water requirements, more wars over land and resources, more environmental damage, more homes being built, more fuel being used etc etc etc.

A good example:  Malaria.  The areas of the world worst affected by malaria also have issues with food and water supplies.  At least 500,000 deaths per year could be prevented in these areas if malaria was cured.   Great! now how do you feed them?  How do you provide water? How do you stop them fighting over resources?  Is it better to die of malaria or starvation/dehydration/gunshot wound?

Curing these diseases will lead to a greater number of older humans around the world.  Many areas of the world have enough difficulty in dealing with the old as it is.  Pension crisis is a common term in the UK.  Poverty amoung the aged is a HUGE issue.  As is appropriate homes for the elderly.

Many people see saving human lives as a good thing but we are a rapidly expanding resource hungry species.  It is also evidant that we are great at expanding on our own problems under the guise of making improvements (such as taking steps to increase population without considering the resource implications).  The only logical improvement would be a dramatic reduction in the number of humans.  Pay people not to breed.  Allow people to die if they wish to do so.  Don't provide medical treatment if all it will do is generate a resource dependant severely disabled person.  Fit and well and capable or dead.  Simple as that.  I know this sounds cruel but it is how a vet would usually treat an animal and we in the long run are just another slightly less hairy primate.  We just have the disadvantage of considering ourselves special compared to other species which is unfortunate and inaccurate.

There are better things to work on that will not increase these numbers.   Non medical Science, New Fuels, better population controlls, better food supplies, logical human habitats, exploration of space, preventing loss of biodiversity and so on.

This is why I use SETI on my PC and would not touch Folding@Home

Recommended googling:  VHEMT  & Pentti Linkola

I have been making comments about this for about 20 years.  Some people agree some hate me for it.  Send all the threats to the usual address

Wow, hats off to dvdcsn. According to your records on folding it says you've had up to four ps3's in the last 50 days and currently are running two to fold with?

You've shot up in the rankings out of nowhere :)

You say all of that nonsense now but what would you be saying if it was your mom or dad or brother that had cancer? What if it was you that had cancer? im pretty dam sure that you wouldve rather spent more time on folding at home instead of laying in a hospital bed waiting to die at a young age.

F@H is not going to help him if he's already stricken with the disease and is laying on his death bed. He does have a point about investing more in ways to improve what we have. Elderly citizens are very expensive to maintain, especially when they cannot take care of themselves and become a major burden. By investing in things such as space exploration, we could save the Earth from the insanely growing population, and preserve more of its natural beauty and resources. Saving a few for the good of many I guess...

LoL J/K
You know whats a Great Idea....
Getting an article on the main site about our Folding @ Home Team.
Im sure we would get at least 50 new members to help our team.

I'm not saying F@H is bad... I'm just saying there are other alternatives. Looking at a problem from one side isn't how you should approach; problems should be approached from all angles and different points of view.

When you load your Folding @ Home software, You should be able to find a Option to change or choose your team ID.. From there change or input the team ID # to: 61588

If you have any trouble please post em! Or PM a Moderator.
