well... RROD is only one way the console can fail.. just ask syko, he's had 6 and all of them failed a different way, but i do belive they failed within the year warranty. Only the RROD is covered for 3 years, anything other than that, and after one year.. you are screwed.

I hear ya both on the "gaming just isn't what it used to be." I myself have lost interest in gaming due in part to many reasons both inside and outside the realm of gaming itself.

I think it started with Halo 3 tbh... I was expecting some great revolutionary game, and it really was a big letdown. It's not because of the hype, because I tried to stay away from that, I honestly felt like the game lacked the greatness that Halo 1 and even Halo 2 had.

After my Xbox broke, I've been using my time more productively rather than wasting away at games. Not to mention, the quality and caliber of games is not as great as it used to be either. I remember when games had depth, feeling, emotion, character and involvement... it's tough to find that today.

This makes me sad.  True using your time more wisely is a good thing, but thinking gaming has lost it's flare just doesn't sit with me.  I think there are so many great games sitting on my shelf I don't even have time to play it is insane.  I think you guys have just grown out of it.  Nothing wrong with that, I am sure it hits different people in different ways.  I just don't agree that gaming is any less appealing now than it was 20 years ago.  I would take what I have on my shelf now as opposed to some of the crap I waded through as a child and thought was immaculate.

I know someone will come in and call me out quoting all the classics such as Zelda, Mega Man and the like, but remember we have some of those greats now and a whole lot more!

Ya, that is true. The hardware is dodgy as hell. I will not lie. However I have had very little trouble with customer support and in fact even managed to get some free stuff out of them for all my trouble.

Seriously though if you want to talk about taking a risk, My brother bought a used "Core" launch system from Gamestop.com because it was $199 for the console and we got the 20gig HDD for $50 bucks so it came in as the cheapest option and that is what he was looking for at the time...He knows how dodgy the system is after watching me rock back and forth like a baby after #5's DVD took the piss. Yet he still elected to go this route. So I told him that best case scenario is that this bastard rings within a few months so that he gets a newer board revision and the extra heatsink etc...I also told him if the DVD fails, or anything else on the POS breaks he is up ****s creek and having to buy an Arcade for $279.

So about 3 weeks ago (after having his 360 for about 5 months) he was at my house while I was playing GTA and he was like hey I'm headed home to go play my game. I was like cool see ya on LIVE...Then about 40 minutes later I get a call and dude is pissed off screaming that his POS just ringed...While I was certainly sympathetic I was also stoked as this was the best case scenario for his risky purchase. Later when he called MS to get a coffin they asked if he was the guy that owned it before since his record was on file... He told the rep he bought it new and didn't have a clue who dude was. The rep said ya sometimes they repackage things and sell them as new, we will just put your info in.. Which is another thing that is great about MS customer support they are dumb as hell and easily manipulated.

So as you can tell from this story you don't know fear of buying a 360 until you look a used core dead in the eyes and buy it online... It helps to have me around if you want to kill your system and get it fixed for free though. I am the 360 reaper!

Yeah more durable and louder. Be warned, almost everything on the 360 is loud. The External Power brick still gets me, but I guess it was needed in the end.

Get it if you feel you'll invest your money well in it.

Alas, what you say is true.Games are evolving, but in the vain of Jack and Dukester, it may be our internal interests changing. I certainly don't feel what I used to feel when I play a game now and when I did as a kid. Mind you, I will not be leaving gaming permanently, it has left way too big of a mark on my life for me to just end it after one day.

I still want to play through God of War, and race with some people here on Wipeout HD but gone are the days of being hyped for a game, following trailers and previews and paying too much attention to reviews.

I don't consider myself getting old at all, I'm only 21, but shooting people in video games is beginning to feel juvenile.Hahaha, funny coming from me considering I just said not too long ago I wanted to participate in the Socom beta. I suppose I'm still feeling very conflicted on this.

I shouldn't make any official statements about it anymore, but I'll end it off on this (ironically, a very official statement), it goes beyond the realm of my control that my interest is in fact, waning, but I'll still play the next great game when it comes out rather than hope every game is going to be the next great one.

</pointlessly talking about myself since no one is interested :P>

Dr. Pirate you have always come across as someone that isn't proud to be a gamer though. You have said it yourself that no one really even knows how in to games you really are. Seems to me that you are trying to back away from the "Stigma" of being a soft palmed, pocket protected, weirdo that plays video games. Sorry didn't mean to get all ghetto Dr. Phil on ya but it seems that way sometimes. I am turning 25 in 2 months and have a son that is starting school, I am not ashamed of being a gamer and figure I could have a much worse habit that could possibly even be destructive like a $300 a week blow habit or something...lol

Sorry feel free to go back on topic now, just had to talk to Pirate for a sec.

Nah I totally understand that, trust me I am not nearly as hardcore as I used to be, but my love is still there and I am trying to bring that back with our podcast and my reviews.  Enthusiast press is a dying media and we want to bring a little back if we can.  Games are fun, the BS that has become synonymous with them is certainly not.

You know.....

This actually makes alot of sense. Of course, you very well know I don't believe that of all gamers, but it may be a very subconscious thing.I think perhaps all it will be is a break, recharge my batteries and I'll be back in the game.

Thanks for talking to me, I appreciate it.

Sorry for going offtopic.

And Zero, I agree 1000%. The BS that has come with media in gaming is NOT fun.

In my defense... there is still some games that I would love to play through again... or continue playing.

I'm not talking about recent games either... I'm talking about games on the Xbox or even the N64. Oblivion is my all time favorite game. I'm also playing through KOTOR and KOTOR II both right now... and even using the original Xbox and controller !!

I dont think I'll ever give up gaming... it's just that there are things in my life now that take a higher priority, and the fact that games dont have that "magic" feel they once used to doesnt help.

I'm not what you would call the stereotypical gamer either... so when I tell people I play video games they give me that "wtf" look. I guess that's what I get for working out and looking good.

Just wondering why some of you guys keep saying newer 360's are more reliable when they are not. MS didn't even bother to put a quieter HDD in the Elites. Black plastic and a larger HDD is the only difference between the Elite and every other 360. If I'm wrong on this, prove me wrong.

Morrowind was better than Oblivion!

Seriously though, hooray for retro. I'm going to go on a retro rampage after I finsh MGS4, play through all the classics. God knows gaming's been heading in the wrong direction as of late...
