I think this whole issue is interesting. If you think it's a ripoff, that's cool. If you think it's a good deal, that's cool too, IMO. But right now, you've got the debate over how good the deal is, plus two other components: 1. Is Qore Sony's Live Gold? And, if so, then are Sony fans owned by their own past statements? 2. Will this lead to Sony charging for online services currently offered for free? The first is just trolling begat by trolling, supported by bad analogies. The second is more interesting because it has a direct link to why so many people are against the wii or casual games, for example. People are so concerned that market forces will affect them, that they get way too concerned about others' purchasing decisions. It's sad, because these sort of fights actually turn people off to your view. A casual gamer can very quickly grow to hate genres of hardcore simply because of "hardcore" trolls. So it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. It'd be better to let it go. If the content's not worth it, few will renew or purchase longterm.
