Dust does prohibit cooling, but canned air will at least knock it out of the way so it can cool. Whereas a vacuum will remove the dust but the static will blow tiny holes in your IC's and other components. We're not talking walk up and touch the light socket level of static, we're talking much, much higher. Do some research. With a vacuum, the cure's worse than the disease. *Edit* I looked in the manual, and it does seem like Sony recommends this for the vents. Specifically a low powered vacuum. Some sort of brush attachment would be advisable though, IMO. Even touching the plastic of the vents directly would be close enough to arc.
