Are you sure you're not just hating, socomnick? I mean, ever since Splinter Cell got sent down the crapper, MGS is without a doubt the best stealth action series out there at the moment. Who knows, Splinter Cell could actually be giving it a run for it's money if it weren't for the atrocious lack of creativity on UbiSoft's part, which more or less killed the series.

some people begin a game with bitterness in their mouth from the start and tend to let emotions cloud their opinions on things. they won't admit it though.
MGS4 is a great game, maybe not the best game ever, but it's a great game.

there are opinions that are credible and there are those that aren't.

Well that can also be said for people who enjoyed the game.  They could be clouded on their opinion that the game is uberness.  I won't lie I'm rolling my eyes at all those 10's thrown out in the UR section for this game.

yeah, you're right. that's why reviews are just that, opinions. it goes both ways. sometimes it gets out of line though.

Undoubtedly a fantastic game, especially for the audience that this game caters too, but that said its only a game that I would play through once every few years, and personally there are some clear issues with the game that could have been done better I think, but then again if they changed what I dont like about the game then it wouldnt be MGS anymore really

- less clunky controls, they could be a lot better
- cqc is poorly implemented
- over-reliance on cutscenes and codec to drive story, especially in a post HL2 era
- story had too much fan service
- stealth system is in need of overhaul
- better save system
- bosses were far too similar and formulaic, every encounter roughly the same (find their weakness, wait for them to go crazy, kill them, drebin tells story) lacked real depth or character

Overall, I think that MGS3 had the better story, characters and music, but all in all a great game and one that I thoroughly enjoyed playing through

the boss battles where very predictable, the storey is interesting but over complicated, i enjoyed the game very much, but it needed more game play, took me 30hours to get through first time, and not alot of was that was game play, honestly i found resistance single player campaign more enjoyable and the storey better, mgo online is very poor, i dont like it, cod4's is better

enemy A.I needed improvement
Bosses were too predictable and easy to figure out
hit detection needed improvement
fan service was spot on
story is epic
needed more weird/wackiness i think.
more destructible environment would have been better
more open would have been awesome too

i have never played one before, so i wasnt sure what to expect.
at first it took a while to get used to the system (still dont know how to use the knife properly/take hostage use playboys), but this is one of the best games i have played, i love the gun customization.  9.5/10

How did you like the game. I mean we hear its the best game ever from here and there from those of us who have been following and loving the series since MGS1. I feel its the best game this gen so far but i am curious to know if the non fanatics liks us enjoyed it enough to make the statement of best game this gen. I won't say best game of all time because i think that is stretching it too far but i really cannot think of a game that is better than MGS4. That is why i feel its best game this gen

Never played it before. The sheer amount of effort that went into the game is astounding. I don't mind the cut scenes. The graphics are so good I can't tell the cut scenes and graphics apart. The only thing I think should have been changed in the game is the cover system. Needs to be more Gears like.

Never owned a psone long, when i did i did not play mgs1

played through mgs2

was on a FFXI craze when mgs3 came out and never played it

my view on MGS4... definetly the best game this generation...quite possibly the best game ever...1/2 movie + 1/2 Game = masterpiece

Don't even bullshit us. The game has around 8 hours of non-gameplay. That means a good 22 hours was gameplay for you, so I assume you just kept dying.

It toook me only 20 hours to beat the game. So I guess I had -4 hours.

If you go at a comfortable pace and you are good at this type of game, including cutscenes it should take under 20 hours. Of that, about 11 hours of gameplay. If you are not good, this will take longer of course.

If you go for a speed run, and skip cutscenes (so minus 8-9 hours from completion time), it will take probably 6 and a half or less hours, the absolute best I've seen being just under 4 hours (ridiculous speed). And of course, the Big Boss emblem requirement is under 5 hours on Extreme, so it is no cakewalk.

Well it depends on how you want to play it. I took my time and made sure i got all the weapons in the area, i frisked all the guards knocked them out did whatever until i was satisfied so i could move on. Final play time was 70hrs or something but it seemed to continue counting time while i paused the game...which i did a lot. My estimate would be 4-5hrs in act 1 and 2, prob 3hrs in act 3, 4 hrs act 4, 4hrs act 5 so. Minus the 8hrs of cut scenes, i would say 13hrs of gameplay for me.

But everyone seems to discredit the cut scenes as part of the game. I mean some of the cut scenes were just like whateva especially history of the boss characters. But some of those cut scenes i can't wait to watch again .

Like i said, MGS4 may not be best game ever, i wouldn't even say that being honest but i honestly cannot think of a game that is better than MGS4. It might not be the game where i had the most fun or where i was most impressed by graphics or where i enjoyed the most gameplay. But the sum of all its parts sky rocket it to a level i have never seen in any other game.

That being said, i had no problems with controls, CQC or any of that stuff. What i didn't like though were the boss battles. Probably the worst in the series imo. Only the last 2 bosses were really interesting

Heavy disagree, the worst boss battles were in MGS2, and even those weren't bad.
