This whole RRoD thing has been blown out of proportion. I have a launch Xbox 360 and it works perfectly. My son and I put in 2-3 hours combined every night between the two of us and no problems.

I have had one rrod once.
I sent it to a tech guy I know and he fixed it and while I was waiting for it back I bought a second just incase the first decided to fail again.
Well my first one (launch console that I had opened up and did a case mod with lights befor failing) has ran perfectly since I got it repaired and my second 360 (Elite) has run smoothly as well.

I do find it hard to believe that people exspierence so much of this problem...
But then again I dont forget to turn my console off after playing which I think alot of problems could happen that way.

And by the way, RRoD is not the only probleem, my xbox failed and I sent it in, no worries, about 3 months later I notice scratches on my disc, and not just the large circular one around the edge, but large ones near the middle. so i ignore it, and what do you know, another month and Gears of War gets so ****ed up no disc Doctor could fix it.

My disc drive also fails to open 3/4 of the time, thank you microsoft!

A good friend of mine still has his launch 360.  After all these years it still works like a charm.

You're being a fanboy, because it ain't 67%. First off: if you read it 'somewhere' give the link. Then we can see if it is a real research or SDF nonsense. Second, there is a difference between failure rate on the old/launch 360 and the Falcon ones with the 65nm CPU & extra heatsink on the GPU. Even that so called 33% failure rate came from a webresearch where many Sony fanboys clicked that 'their 360' (right...) failed them.

Lets say that the launch 360 is max 33% failure rate (taken in account that there are some % false respondents). The Falcon 65nm & extra heatsink will probably dive below the 10%. There ain't no exact numbers on this.

I have had my launch console till the end of 2007 without problems, but sold it second hand for a good price and upgraded to the Falcon 65nm with HDMI also still working. I have a lot of friends with 360's and I think about 10% to 15% (mixed launch&Falcons) have had some sort of problems with overheating.

I've had my 360 since Feb 2006 and its still working great, the strange thing is that I've encountered the 3 red rings 3 times so far yet each time I just restarted my console and it worked, I also recived the one red light and I was scared haha, the screen went black and white text appeared with hardware failure please called Xbox Support then some error code. Again I just restarted my console and it worked again, man I'm just lucky.

Nah you're not lucky Zonetrooper, once the 3 red rings occurs, it'll get worse. Be prepared to send it in and be sure you'll do it before the warranty is over (bought it at the end of 2005? THen send it in before 2008)

The OP when she comes back, should fix the title. I think her box eventually broke.
That is unfortunate. Anyway  'their' should be 'there'.

look i said i read it a long time ago....and i said that its most likely different now
i looked it up and it sayed that the 360s as of about march 2008 have a failure rate of 18%

and i wasnt beeing a fanboy because i wasnt saying that it was THAT bad, i didnt compare it to ps3 claiming its low(i dont know the rate). and when i say failure rate i mean if something breaks on it and it needs repair anywhere form a disc tray disfunction to RROD.

just because my name is grantPS3 doesnt mean im a fanboy. i picked it because i have a ps3 and i didnt know what else to make. i play 360 with my cousins every once in a while.

i wasnt coming into a 360 thread to pick a fight.

I have a launch 360 and no RRoD yet. I want the new model anyways though. So I will probably buy another one before Christmas.

lol, ANYONE that actually bothers to understand HOW does the 360 RROD and WHY knows that the "percentage" on released SKUs does not go to "will it fail or not" it goes to "when is it gonna fail" and no Mart contrary to the I-want-to-believe the differences in terms of RROD between the launch 360s and the Falcon is minimal since VERY few was done to aid the main cause of the problem...I mean go watch or read about the REAL RROD experts which are the people that have been doing blogs and videos about there experimentation with the RROD and the 360 since day 1 so forget MS or big sites "we dont know about the cause of the RROD" hell you can even start opening some 360s adn experimenting like many of us and you just might discover how simple is the RROD problem really is and yet the majority of people still dont understand it

people keep forgetting the RROD is NOT a problem with faulty parts in "select console batches" its a console design problem...hell not even a freaking water cooled 360 was able to save it self from the RROD so no band-aid job of switching from copper to aluminum heatsinks is gonna do the magic if the rest of the cooling system is crap -_-

come on Mart you were suppose to to be the biggest 360 "fan" on this site so get informed..."better" not just MS PR and the classic deductions and speculations of the people that keep on mystifying the RROD

Seriously I'd like to buy a 360, but when I read all that, how could I buy one after ? I don't want to send it back to MS every 2 weeks.

The 360 is a good console (while still a bit inferior to PS3 in hardware and games), but the product quality is terrible. MS shoudln't even be allowed to sell this (33 % failure rate, come on...).

Mine broke 2 days before the warranty ran out. Sent it to MS, got it back after 4 weeks and broke again after 2 hours of Assassins Creed. Sent it back and got it 2 weeks later. Both times they said that it was a faulty CPU. Now it works fine.
