Yeah it is. They were stupid for removing it in the first place, their reason was dumb too. Something about wanting new console owners to play "current gen" games. Okay but, we should also be given the damn option to play PS2 games. I got a 60GB hardware BC model so I'm not complaining on my behalf, though.

the 40GB is more backwards compatible with its last gen library than the 360....
plus the 40-80gb can all play ps1 games perfectly...

Atleast you can play your own last gen games on the ps3, also...

Seeing as the 40Gb can't play any PS2 games, I'd say the 360 is more BC. Like I said though, it matters not to me, my 60 plays everything fine.

I know, I was just kicking in some poor fanboy humor, but, stepping away from immaturity for a second, the reason the 40GB isn't fully emulated while the 80GB is, is because the 80GB contains the GS chip, which eliminates half the required work output to achieve emulation.The 40GB contains absolutely no parts of the ps2 hardware, not the GS chip nor the Emotion Engine, so infact, they'd have to go back and do emulation from scratch if they want it to be possible on the PS3 40GB...

It was a poor choice, but it was Sonys desperate attempt to regain some profit from the billions they lost on the system, and, with Sony generally lacking in the attraction of casual department of gamers, they need their previous libraries from their last two iterations into the console business to help support the value into their system, so it also takes another blow for them, they really messed up this gen...

The only thing that makes the 40 gb PS3 better than the 80 is the price! The 40 can't play PS2 games!

It's still a shame they discontinued the 60 gb unit because that was the best model Sony produced thus far.

If you get rid of that stupid image from your post, you've made one of few sensible replies.

I agree the 60 was the best. The 80 is fine too, but it's great having the EE chip for full BC.

Yes, the 60GB was the best, and it all falls in Sony's plotline, because removing BC wasn't only helping cut costs, they were hoping to attract a market on the verge who were debating to buy a PS3 to make a move then and there, for the few who it mattered to having BC, or full BC for that matter....
