You MGS fans are so defensive, go see Zero Punctuation's analysis of MGS4 and tell me that Yatzee is wrong about his points. I'm not calling it a bad game, but to me who hates long cut scenes it is very passive

you do know you can skip cutscenes right?

press Start
select Skip
problem solved.

If you skip the cutscenes, you might as well not played the game, thats how passive it is.

If you skip all the cutscenes you'll still get as much playtime as Halo 3 gives you, and that includes Halo 3's cutscenes.

Unless you don't like Halo 3's campaign, in which case I retract my point.

I really didn't like Halo 3's campaign, aside from 4 player co-op with my friends help drown out the stupid story. When I talk about passiveness in game I refer to where you are watching a cutscene and you say to yourself "why am I not playing this" or "wow this is cool, I wish the developers would let me play this". MGS is not the only one guilty for this, alot of JRPS, and Devil May Cry 4 are also heavily guilty of this

Hm. Well, your complaints stem from your gaming type. It seems that you would rather have a cutscene-less game. Fair enough, that is fine.

I enjoyed DMC's cutscenes, the dialogue pales horribly when compared to MGS or LOK though. But again, at this point it's completely personal preference.

All I'm saying is for people who like cutscenes, discrediting MGS's as being not great is pretty hard to prove, there's very little better. On the contrary, longer better cutscenes  = ****tier, slower experience for those who don't want them.

Are we on a similar page now?

yeah, games are all personal opinion, like how i prefer a strong storyline with a good script and engaging characters.

games that don't meet that criteria give the the whole "why am i playing this?" "what's the purpose of me continuing?" "why am i killing these badguys"
that's why i'm not much of an MP gamer.. running around killing as many people as you can with no rhyme or reason... it bores me.
i'd rather play a game to unravel a story and get a connection with the characters i'm playing.

I'm not much of an MP gamer because it all seems to be the same ****.

Whenever people tell me that they don't care about SP and that it's all about MP, I always ask myself, "what the hell happened to the days when consoles weren't online?"

Santanas, I guess you are right. It goes back to what we prefer playing, I not really in to mindless shooters like Halo 3 or COD4, but I love TF2, the characters have so much personality, and the objectives are so refreshing compared to other shooters.

TF2 is pretty good. Again, I'm not too much into MP, but I played it at a few LAN parties and had fun. It's different from other shooters.

The MGS series is passive game experience, Cliffy was right.

Yeah, the same Cliffy B who sucked Kojima's balls in the MGS LE bonus disk, by talking about how the Metal Gear series is one of the best of all time?

Yeah, that Cliffy B. Itagaki was also in the bonus disk footage, for the record.

Haha i saw that d**k riding from cliffy. Itagaki has always been cool with kojima though but after cliffy trash talk it was funny to see him riding

TF2 is just any other shooter, except the game and its characters have a little more personality thats all. But the thing about online games is, its the little diferences that often set them apart. But I digress, Cliff B work for a company that specialize in cranking out mindless shooters, and for him to call out any game for being "passive" is rather ironic when the only activity you do in his games is shoot things. Its Gears of War 2 for Christ's sake, its not like he's working on some sort of interactive masterpiece.
