I agree I wish modern reviews would rate games by last generations standards.
Gta4, and mgs 4 did not derserve all the perfect 10s.

In fact I think this gen there has only been 1 game deserving of a perfect 10. That was bioshock.

I don't know, Bioshock was good, but nothing above a 9. I do rank it amongst the best games of this gen, though. I haven't had the pleasure of playing MGS4 yet, but I'm a biased and jaded fanboy, so that'll no doubt be good enough for me.

Perhaps the worst offender of overhype and overrating, next to GTA4, is Halo 3. The amount of hype that game recieved on launch day was ridiculous, and the actual quality of the game didn't warrant it. I think it even recieved a Metascore the same as that of MGS1 (I never check Metascores, I'm not completely sure of that). Same goes for GTA4, though.

I can't believe there are still hardcore MGS fans out there who haven't played the most crucial game in our beloved series yet

mate you'll love it- MGO is great too

unfortunately my hard drive bricked during Act 4- lost that and my near-finished GTA save

fortunately, I don't mid re-playing it- there's so many different ways to play- it's amazing

Lj I got 6 hours of gameplay and like 8 hours of cutscenes.
Having more cutscenes than gameplay time annoys me.

On the bright side, that's still got more gameplay than Halo, Gears of War and COD4. And like I said, I haven't played the game yet, but my bias and nostalgic attitude will probably delude me into thinking that the game is a perfect, faultless piece of art. As long as I'm happy with it though, that's all that really matters.

i agree, but i dont think a game should ever get a 100% because there is always something that can be better.

Yes, Halo was among the first to recieve inflated scores, but standards were lowering for a while before that, too.

they do practice that religion of metacritcs/gamerankings as the Word of God scripture

anyway, back on topic i hope Getaway will come back to being developed. but i'd rather see 8 Days more though.

Keep in mind though, if Metacritic was biased towards the PS3 instead of the 360, it'd be the PS3 fanboys taking the exact same stance. All fanboys are the same.

Eight days > getaway. The stuff that was rumored for it just sounded incredible. Unfortunately, it will probably never come to pass. Anyway i shall continue to hope for a return to the series
