Japan eats up DS/PSPs like crack. I think the Wii has help stall the inevitable portable shift though.

Yea the Jrpgs sell pretty well outside of japan.

Blue Dragon has sold 500,000 copies.
Lost Oddysey has sold 750,000 copies.
Mass Effect sold almost 2 million copies
Eternal Sonata sold 250,000 -- why has this not been released in Europe its a great game.
Oblivion sold 2.5 million copies
Two worlds sold 340,000 copies its a shame because it sucked. Wish that Eternal Sonata sold more its a great game.

I know. the Japanese seem to be really cautious when it comes to American products though, they seem to have much higher standards. And damn do they like things small.

well, have you seen the living space available to them over there? not very spacious for each person per square foot. (in the major cities)
and they are way, way, way too loyal to their country. look at poor Samsung for Christ's sake.

anyway, you need to factor in that developers and publishers are out to make money, and the install base has a huge influence in what platform they will develop for. passing up the 360's bigger install base would be a very poor business decision. and now that the wii is eating up the world, they're all jumping onto that now.

Nothing wrong with handhelds getting some glory

I like that DS is getting high profile games and the PSP as well. I always liked handheld and I would be happy with more. Heck they made a FFXII for DS I don't see why they wouldn't make a FFXIII DS game. Dragon Quest IX will be coming too! Sonic Chronicles heck it's great to be a handheld player

Yeah i see your point

. Still even though I'm a firm believer in the fact that the PS3 won't shoot up to first I do believe it'll come soundly in second everywhere except the U.S.. Hopefully that means more JRPGs.

Edit: Yeah I do love my DS and PSp but still its weird to see a shift go on right before you. No one could have seen this coming 5 years ago.

Numbers are within 2 years of each consoles lifespan. So no unless you want to make special circumstances.

The data was twisted from the start... fact is xbox has a head start... you don't need a thread full of stats to figure out it is going to have more RPGs. It's called common sense. Like the other person said, remake this thread in a few years.

I really think this thread should be locked... it's going to cause nothing but flames. And before I get called fanboy... I don't even own a PS3, OR a PS2. So i'm not trying to hate against 360.

edit- Just realized it talks about the first 2 years of each console. Nevermind.

B Man this is data from the first 2 years of the PS2 the first 2 years of the 360 and the first 2 years of the PS3. The 360 head start has nothing to do with the data

which system has the most rpgs isnt really an issue if most arnt worth mentioning i own a 360 and most of its rpgs fall squarly into the 'average' catagory. I dont play 'average' games i play 'good' and 'great' games. keep in mind i dont own a ps3 but in my experience even the ps2 and definitly the ps1 tend to lean towards longer harder rpgs with better plots and subplots (not a big fan of ff12 for lack of subplot). mass effect owns though
