Do you leave your PS3 on stand by whenever you turn it off? Switch it off.

I've read that you're not supposed to turn off the backswitch of the PS3, unless you're not going to use it for more than a week.   Apparently it could get damaged in time.

there is actually more chances of your PS3 suffering from some sort of electrical problem if you leave it in stand by than if you switch it off

but remember that there are always other things to consider for example as mentioned its not necessary to switch it off but the PS3 will continue to drain power and its more exposed to electrical problems but at the same time one must not abuse the on/off switch cuz maniacally using it causes tear and wear that would eventually cause problems to your PS3, according to the manual its "ok" to have it either way but its wise to remember what each of the 2 options pros and cons are

No not at all. \

Try not use folding at home if you cant afford the bill because it might shoot it up.

I dont know if it was a result of bad propaganda or not, but I remember hearing in 2006 that the PS3 used up tons of electricity.  For the longest I was skeptical of leaving it on for extended periods of time.

lets assume i do have children, we can also assume that Sony will be more energy efficient with their next console, learning that a ps3 consumes 5 times the electricity of a fridge..

I am on a electric meter which apparently uses more than paying Monthly, but must admit considering its supposed to be power hungry its seems to be OK, I leave mine on 9hrs a day approx. 9hrs adayis normally about 90p.

It is just like a computers standby mode. It barely consumes any electricity.

"The PS3's 380 watts will cost you around $40 a year to run if you play it two hours a day."

There's your answer. That $60 must be from something else, or just call up the electric company and ask them why you paid more.

Sounds like baiting topic. Here's another review: http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-356-2.htm

Given that they compared 4 different platforms, that's a lot of good information there.

Hmm... that's interesting. The PS3 never goes above 200 watts.

On this Japanese site (translated to English with google) it says that the power consumption goes from 150 W to 180 W.

I bought the PS3 with the metal gear launch and my electricity bill was almost 60 bucks more than usual.  I have used everything else pretty much the same.  I have heard somewhere that PS3 consumes twice or more the electricity of normal electronics.  If thats the case then PS3 isn't as cheap as I thought.  Hit me up with some replys if you all have experienced such  a thing.

they already tested this it adds 5 bucks to your monthly light bill.but later on on in the year they are suppose to release a new one that sucks up less enegy they say they are going more green

Why is it that some articles say the 360 uses more energy than the PS3, and vice versa? From what I've seen, all the articles are equally credible, is it regional differences in the models or something?

EDIT: I just Googled it, and the majority of the articles seem to point towards the PS3 using either equivalent or more power than the 360, and significantly more than the Wii, but less than a PC. Makes sense.
