Sci Fi... or just fiction in general, but mostly sci fi.  I can't bring myself to read non-fiction.  I already enjoy movies over books, and reading about history, politics... whatever would just bore me beyond belief.  I'll watch the news or the history channel for my non-fiction material.  :P

I noticed there was a book club kind of thing here, and wanted to know what everyone likes reading?  Novels, essays, short stories, poems?

I have to say, that my favorite readins are, The Count of Montecristo; the Agony and the Ecstasy; American Gods..

My favorite play is Julius Ceasar by Shakespeare (et tu Brute.. heart wrenching) My favorite short story is the Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe.  My favorite poem is Sonnett XVII by Pablo Neruda.  I don't read too many essays, but the ones I have like are On Bullshit (a weird little book), and I enjoy reading things on politics (I majored in Political Science)

I would gladly accept any recommendations you all have

There's a lot of ground covered in all that. I love Gaiman... for a twist there's the novel that he and Terry Pratchet wrote together (Pratchet's someone i'd recommend to anyone): Good Omens. Maybe a bit lighter than AG and more comedic, but still fab. Gaiman's really more story teller and Pratchet's writing is probably more polished and his wit razor sharp, so they make a great pair.

It's hard to recommend a lot more without more works listed, but here's my "listal" (sort of a list of movies, books, etc., not complete): http://kholinar.listal.com/

I'm enjoying the thread. My father read my sister and I the Narnia books every night from about 4th to 5th grade. I think that really sent me on fire to read. I almost never was without a book at night from that time to my late twenties.

Yeah we are try to press upon her the enjoyment of reading.... and it is working .... I have been reading the Narnia books now and my wife reads to her these books called Animal Arc ....

So she has been enjoying both a lot... she is also just finished grade 4 so I hope reading catches on for her the way it did for you...

My wife and I aren't planning on kids yet, but one of my goals is to have a really nice library for them (wife's an english major btw). I'm a big fan of fairy tales in general for young kids. Some of George MacDonald's are the best I've ever read. The Golden Key (short story), I think, would be fab for that age.

I've bought a lot of library quality books that I hope I can pass on for generations.
