I agree, my interest in games isn't as sturdy as it used to be. My mind wanders while I'm playing games, as opposed to when I was a kid, when I was fully immersed in whatever crap I was playing. Games are "mainstream" now, which I hate.

Don't bother, you've already seen the best the series has to offer.

Hey, I kinda started used this subject in my rant on Fallout 3 topic yesterday. You'll be sued!!

But seriously I agree. Fallout 1&2, Deus Ex, MK2, WarCraft 2, System Shock 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Torment, MGS1, Blood, Doom 1&2... they're the past and modern gaming is just military FPS, casual crap and "Wii Something".

Until we make the jump to true 3D, or VR, you'll never see another game as innovative as when we made the jump from 2D to on-screen 3D.  Where as before we were extremely limited in what we could do in games because of a 2D enviroment, the jump to 3D allowed us to implement ideas that were already floating in our heads.  To be honest though, because of that... if they can make a game at this point that is innovative at all... it is just as innovative as mario 64, OoT, ect... because everything thought of has been done really.  There is something out there people haven't thought of, we just have to wait for someone to figure that out.

I think we should all stop with this innovative talk. Its what causing people to become so upset about gaming imo. The last innovation was with the jump from 2D to 3D. The Wii is not innovative and  Sony and Microsoft hasn't done anything innovative either. People have become so disillusioned with gaming simply because they buy into all that hype.

Waggle controls? Wow! Thank you Nintendo! Even though I have been playing motion controlled games at the local Dave and Buster's for years, you are the only company to do it. Praise be Miyamoto!

XBL?Paying for **** pc gamers have been doing since Doom? Adding useless scores to make crappy games seem like GOTY?

Finally Sony.. Telling me the games you have been making are out of this world and original when actually I have been playing these same games for decades? 4D and Ridge Racer? Telling me promises that only come true with your next generation of consoles?

What I am saying is gaming should be an ejoyable hobby. Quit falling for the hype and promises that the companies tell you. Mainstream didn't kill the consoles. It was all the hype and a**holes that came with it that did it. Nostalgia is great, but there were flaws with those generations too. Its just with all the rabid fanboys and Mountain Dew Halo ads that the past generations seem perfect compared to now.

Surprisingly, he isn't feeling nostalgia there. You all think that we've never had it this good 'cause you simply concentrate on all the things that actually make games appear lame to people like him. I mean, I really miss playing games that never even needed to hit 60fps in order to make you go "wow". A Link to the Past is one such game. I challenge anyone to point out a game as amazing as that one, without resorting to graphics or features that they have.

Where are the great storylines, the unmissable characters and that feeling you get that makes you feel like you're on top of the world? Super Mario 64 had magic... It pulled you in, gave you a load of magic mushrooms and made you the happiest person on the planet. And we all know it didn't need 16-player online modes or 3D texture mapping to do it.

The only game out there that I've played recently that would fall under that category is Metal Gear Solid 4. If they released the same game on a PSOne engine, removing the online modes, it'd still be as amazing as it is now. But other than that, it seems like everything is drifting away from what makes a game a game, and into the realms of how good the game can look, or how many features they can fit onto one disc... Some developers just need to return to their roots once in a while, I think...

I don't understand... what more innovation can you get???      Just boost me the graphics as much as you can and keep the gameplay as good as it has been for many years and then improve a bit on it.

Yes, innovation is good, but what more can developers do so they can still keep the game fun and not mess it up trying to innovate too much??

What do people want??  bombs going through their tv's into their living rooms???  Inject the syringe themselves???

When you're child your mind is just concentrated on things that make you happy in your own little world...  Toys, Trading cards, video games etc...   and all you want to do is enjoy that moment and nothing else.  That's why it may seem more fun playing games when you're a child.

Now we have responsabilites (most of us) we have girlfriends, we have bills, work....  So it's difficult to feel that way anymore.

STILL.  I'm more than happy with video games today.  Games are incredible and even though visuals tend to improve more than everything else(my favorite part of video games), gameplay has being top notch in almost every game this gen.

I don't care if they innovate to the point where I say, WOW I haven't seen that sh*t in my life.  Just keep the graphics stunning and provide a decent, great or awesome gameplay.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts. Games these days are all about graphics, all about how many pixels the game has, how big the girls tits are, the engine of the game... all that bullcrap. Back in the day it wasn't quite so much like that. I remember it was more like "Omg! I got Mario 64 yesterday! AWESOME GAME!" their friend says "Ahh man I want to play that so bad! Too bad I don't have a 64!" Or vice versa with say... FFVII or MGS1. Nowadays it's like "OMG I GOT HALO 3 YESTERDAY!" their friend says "OMG HALO 3 SUCKS 640P HAHALOL!" [insert massive fanboy argument] Or something like that, or put in MGS4 or Killzone or something. It's one of those "My penis is bigger" kinda deals.

Games, have changed.

Recently there has been some really good game i have enjoyed(not so much halo 3, l love the original one though), but like MGS4, Bioshock, etc.

Aside from those games though yeah not as much. At the same time back then there were also alot of games that sucked.

I definetly have fond memories of stuff like ocarina of time and other games as well though, and gaming those days were awesome. But it has somewhat changed being that videogaming has become more mainstream, however there have recently been some excelent games. But thats just me i guess.

Edit: I definetly agree with you though about everything being about graphics. I think there should be a standard for sure, but it seems people seem just to care about graphics.

Yeah, recently there've been a few good games, but it seems like there were more in the 64 and SNES era. There were equally as many(or more) crappy games but I'm not sure. BIoshock was decent, MGS4 was probably the best game and will be the best game of this gen. I miss my good RPG's when the main characters weren't girly men, definitely.
