"America" refers to both North and South America's ***Whille were here for those wo don't know...Central America is NOT a continent*** South America is all the countries below the Panama Canel (give or take), North America is Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the region that is Central America. In total, North America contains well over 30 countries, not 3. Greenland is an island, and is part of Denmark therefore NOT part of North America. Canada and Mexico are independent countries. All this confusion is because of a poor choice of words by the US's founding fathers. The USA is a number of states who are united within the New World. 'America' does not specifically mean 'United States of America'. It truely is a beautiful word and unfortunately been tarnished by the Bush admininstration, a couple dumb wars here and there, etc. Also, South America doesn't all speak Spanish. Brazil's primary language is Portugese, and Guyana is English.
