I'm sure there is a way to "become" gay; if you look at the jail systems, many straight individuals became homosexual out of necessity.  It is a similar occurence with the ancient world and their soldiers.  Spartan soldiers would be each other's lovers.  One reason, is that they spent most of their time alone with eachother without many women.  Secondly, Spartans considered (and most other ancient war philosophy) that a man would fight to the death without concern for themselves, to protect another man who they cared for deeply.   But, it is undeniable that most homosexuals are born liking the same sex.  I have friends who are gay and they've been gay their whole life; i've seen children who were obviously gay and turned out to be gay; animals of other species have homosexual varieties.  If a religion doesn't alllow so be it; i'm Catholic and they don't allow homosexual religious ceremonies.  They should be able to ban it; but no state entity should be able to ban legal marriage.

I don't really care about gay marriage. The only thing I think is wrong is that a gay couple who love one another with all their hearts have less marital rights than a straight couple who don't love each other at all. Which, when you think about it, isn't right. But, I'm not really concerned.

i dont dissagree that it should be recognized. but it should be much the same offer the same rights as a "domestic partnership". the dp rights and benefits should at least be upped to match the status of marriage so that its one for religous people and one for those who arnt. i dont believe that gays should be allowed to violate the religious institution of marriage and i dont believe that gays should be banned from the rights and benefits a marriage currently offers.(except adoption as it could cause trama if the child wasnt old enough to choose wether or not to go with gay  parents as they are given the choice if theyre old enough to understand.) and the mental disorder part....ill admit i agree but id rather not continue on that subject. i dont care what others think but im not trying to offend people either.

Then we agree to disagree. I am against pandering by way of the tax code. One tax code for all regardless of who you are what you do or how much you make. I favor the Fair tax and doing away with all the obtrusive government beucrasy. The current tax code collects more information on you then a dozen patriot acts. Marriage is a legally binding institution. I am all for buyer beware when it comes to medicine, jobs, and cars but marriage is different. If someone doesn't believe in Marriage then why perform the religious ritual. If one believe we are all just molecules in space and all actions have no absolutes, why get married. I know atheist that get angry at hearing the words "going to hell." Why should it? A Christian God creates a Christian hell. You can not have One with out the other. You can't divorce one from the other. You can not divorce religion from itself.

Lady(Cat that you) and Gentleman(that's the rest of you mugs) this is how to have a civil argument. He agrees with some points and disagrees with others, but he states both.

marriage for most does not hold the same religous meaning, its like Christmas, sure its a religous holiday, but its evolved into a holiday for kids, where they are praised and given gifts for being good, and its all just fun. Marrage has become the same thing

The amount of religious backing in this thread is too high.

*lowers the level of religious backing in this thread*

That's better, now it's more bearable.

thats just ridiculous.  If thats the case, then why don't we just allow people be serial killers and rapists because we allow freedoms such as speech and religion.  To compare killing and incest to homosexual's happiness and marriage is ridiculous.

I was responding to BigPete7978 general idea of allowing people to do whatever they please as long as it makes them happy, I wasn't comparing killing and incest to homosexual's happiness. No need to get all defensive.
