Can't forget about Kaneda. Akira is a classic, no anime fan is one if they have not seen it.

I started with Evangelion (my 1st manga was nausicaa)
To be perfectly honest, I never really liked akira....It was good but....not zomg good

Doesn't matter, at least you've seen it.

The first time I saw it I thought it was alright. The second time, I thought it was awesome. Some of it is shaved from the manga though.

I started with Ranma ½. That was my first anime, still one of my favourites. I've never been a Gundam fan, mecha bores me to tears, but I do also like some Gundam series and what I've seen of Evangelion, I did like.

Nausicaä is also kick ass. Miyazaki is incredible.

Bzzz, Tekkaman, Gatchaman, Mazinger Z, Macross/Southern Cross, and 8 Man here when I was young. My mom was into anime so she had some when I was little and I watched it then.

In any case my vote goes for DBoy from Tekkaman Blade, Oburi from Kite, and Zor/Zor Prime from Macross. Oh and the Guyver.

Status: offline 		Has anyone here seen Taiyou no Ouji: Horusu no Daibouken? It's an old school 1968 war propaganda anime film from Isao Takahata. I have it, I've only seen part of it but it's pretty good stuff considering its age. The wolves don't bleed, though 

Horus here is one of the original kiddy-badasses

Status: offline 		It seems a lot of people are solely into newer/mainstream anime...that's all well and good, but there's a lot of excellent work anywhere from the 60s to the mid 90s. Definitely check some older series/films out.
