ORIGINAL: RyokoSparda Square would be dead without Enix All Square ever do is Final Fantasy which has gone downhill because they have lost key members of the FF staff and the whole thing is too long in the tooth now really and needs major change, Enix gave them Star Ocean, Dragon Quest, Valkyrie profile etc which has given verity, if you look at squaresofts releases over the years before the merger you will notice an increasing reliance on final fantasy to keep them going while they experiemented making mediocore and poor selling games in other genres. In this day and age I don't think they could survive on Final fantasy anymore, Dragon Quest is the biggest selling RPG series in Japan now. Actually they had pretty killer games in Xenogears, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, Brave Fencer Musashi, Threads of Fate, Einhander, Legend of Mana, Front Mission 3, and Chrono Cross back then. All but the last three were new franchises that they could have expanded (PE and BFM got sequels), hell Xenogears alone is 6 chapters (with XG being chapter 5) which WOULD have been made if there wasn't a falling out between Square and Tetsuya Takahashi (unconfirmed). It's true that their reliance on whoring the FF franchise started hurting them, but they DID have an overall better catalogue back then than the do now. Which now, they STILL whore FF to death considering I have no idea how many times the first 4 games have been remade over the years, only now they're developing mediocre games to go along with it. The Enix owned games have always had awesome gameplay but subpar storylines for me and I don't see that trend changing sadly even with the merge.
